I ain't no fortunate one.
Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 10:34 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad
Some folks are born made to wave the flag,
ooh, they're red, white and blue.
And when the band plays "Hail To The Chief",
oh, they point the cannon at you, Lord,

It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no senator's son,
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one, no,

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, don't they help themselves? oh.
But when the taxman come to the door,
Lord, the house look a like a rummage sale, yes,

It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no millionaire's son, no, no.
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one, no.

Yeh, some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
ooh, they send you down to war, Lord,
And when you ask them, how much should we give,
oh, they only answer, more, more, more, yoh,

It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no military son, SON, NO
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one, NO NO

It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one, no no no,
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate son, son son son

1. A very appropriate song for these times...
Sadly, these words were true when the song was written and are true now.

Our country hasn't learned a fucking thing.

2. Wanna hear something hilarious?
During the GOP convention back in 2000, they played that song - well, the music - on one of the nights...I kid you not. I think they meant it to be some sort of rebuttal of Hatfield's book, but I rolled laughing. The idiots had obviously never listened to the words of the song.

4. My husband and I figured they couldn't have known the words
It just seemed so ludicrous that they would know the song, and use it anyway - since it so pointedly marked Bush as indeed being a "Fortunate Son" - but you know, sometimes, considering everything that's happened between then and now, I wonder if it wasn't meant as a slap in the face.

5. It's worse than that.
They see Dems as the fortunate sons, and themselves as the downtrodden ones who are constantly taken advantage of.

Honest. You will not see the sarcasm smily here. They (still) see themselves as underdogs. They (still) see themselves as oppressed. Their media tells them so.

To understand their stridence, you must comprehend their delusional victimhood.

6. That would make the song choice down right creepy
but they do embrace the role of the victim

7. It's a great song. I've always liked it and Fogerty and CCR.
The opening guitar riff is smokin. Its downright prescient in the way it applies to the walking catastrophe in the Whitehouse. But you know Al Gore was a Senator's son as well so not all American political dynasties are motivated by greed and lust for power. While some dynasties may only seek to serve a nation they love the behavior of others can only be explained if they are in fact our enemies and seek to destroy us.
