sign of a future thaw in US / Cuban relations, yes?

7. I, for one, always sort of admired Fidel
He kicked out a very corrupt Batista, and has survived in spite of all of the bullshit brought upon him by the US. John Foster Dulles and the United Fruit Co. started him off on his leftist views.

8. Doesn't matter what WE think of him. The Cubans seem to like him,
and it's their country.

Were I elected President tomorrow, lifting that moronic embargo would be the second thing I'd do.

(The first would be to order our people home from Iraq.)

9. Right on both counts!
That embargo is ridiculous, especially considering we're the only ones participating in it. Just absurd. Open up those beaches for tourism and the Yankee dollar, then you'll see some action in Cuba. And I resent the simple fact I'm not allowed to travel there.

And bring the troops home. Now.

14. Cuba's Old American Cars Not What They Seem
Even if sanity finally comes to US--Cuba relations, I fear that those old pre-1959 cars aren't going to be the bonanza that some people hope. Unlike their pampered, car show and collector's prized US counterparts, the Cuban cars were driven a lot for over 45 years and decades beyond what they were designed for.

More importantly, you pop the hoods of some of those babies, and you're not going to see much in the way of what went in back in Detroit. The engines are likely to be from old Soviet-built Ladas and the batteries are likely to be Japanese or (these days) Chinese or even South Korean.

12. Thanks for the "heads up" on this. A wise thing for him to do...and
what most folks do before surgery. At least he is thinking of his country. Bush would do it in secrecy figuring Cheney or the Neo-Cons will take care of it all and to hell with what the average American thinks or knows.
