CNN's Faith and Values Correspondant is telling us about the rapture!
Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 07:40 PM by Beelzebud
I can't believe what I'm seeing. They are treating this as if it were a legitimate debate..

We're fucked, folks...

Scientists talking about global warming = crazy

Religious FREAKS talking about being raptured = reasonable question

Get me off this fucking planet...

5. I for one can't wait for the rapture
I'm planning on moving in to Pat Robertson's humble 20,000+ square foot mansion and driving around town in his modest limousine.
Pat does so much to emulate Jesus' life. Poverty, humility, love of one's neighbor, etc. I'm sure he'll be the first on that Jesus will take to heaven. No doubt he'll rule at God's left hand.

33. You know what I really, really, really despise?
when nutball theories like this get treated like a serious issue by the media because they are part of a large religion *even though rapture freaks represent a very small percentage), yet the same media mocks things like Scientology and Astrology.

Sure, I think both of those are mostly a load of crap, but I think mainstream Christianity is too.

15. CNN is doing an admirable job of indirectly pimping the Boy King as
God's instrument with all this Rapture crap. They are artfully presenting the mythical "Rapture" issue to give the whacko Christian fundies another subtle message that the problems in the ME are a good thing because it is God's will that the Kings of the world come to the Plains of Armegeddon and settle it once and for all.

Evil men have used these very ideas throughout the ages to kill untold millions in their quest for total power and riches. This is just the modern, high tech version of a very old ploy.

Look at it this way, if they are all swept away, maybe there will be less global warming, more oil to go around, the prices will drop and best of all... the entire bu$h regime would be gone, out of our hair.

Do any DUers have a few hundred acres in the desert they can spare?

We could dress up like angels and have some canned harp music and pull up in a Holy White Hummer.
They are so stupid, they would be convinced very easily.

Then we could lead them away to our facility in New Mexico where they can't bother us anymore.

They'll think they've been raptured; we'll finally have some peace.

Just an idea....

44. All this is, is another way to use fear to manipulate people. It's not
any different then other tricks and spin BushCo and the neo-CONs have used.

If it makes anyone feel any better there have been fundies preaching that the end is near almost since Jesus died. There have always been "signs" they could point to as they pick and choose what "gems" they want out of the Bible. Of course they fail to mention the signs that aren't fulfilled or even able to be fulfilled or that Jesus spoke about it all happening while some of those around him were still alive. (If that is true where are these 2000+ year old people?)

Fear is power to these people... they feed off of it... they get off on it... it's a drug they use to control the masses. Those who follow the teachings of Jesus don't use fear to manipulate... they live a life of love, giving and tolerance just because that is what he taught was the right thing to do.

If Jesus actually does come back, I suspect from my reading of his words in the Bible, that he will not be pleased nor impressed with the Falwell types at all.

64. Laughing Christians
They were not so subtly mocking of a congregation that believed in the power of hysterical laughter. It was not funny to listen to the forced ruckus at one of their celebrations. To say the least, tongues were gently symphonic in comparison.

The more they show the cults the better no matter what their opinion, although it depends on the mind of the listener who can be seduced by the cult or the opinion maker. In fact I remember in the old days when the mainstream was more in tune with apocalyptic- before it degenerated to futuristic "cult" movies. Maybe it was the post-War blues and the Cold War fear. Hope was an afterlife commodity.

What people might do well is to switch the "end times" channel. Something is ending and it is hopelessness and staticity both. The world as we know it is ending and so will the human race but we know these are not pre-ordained hopeless scenarios with death as the conclusion. It is ALL supposed to be about hope, saving life and change. That is a very big thing way beyond the negative recidivism of Cold War despair. Twisting the hope of most of mankind, the awakened duty and the meaning of this world, this creation in progress, the shared realization, is the work of a sick minority that try to redefine reality to a past fantasy. If it was merely about succumbing to vertigo and jumping the gun of Armageddon in good faith it would be an alternative of sorts. As usual, a dying ideology becomes ornery, false and over the top, twisting even what it says it believes in to a collapsing selfish lie.

Our news people are just as incompetent and toolish foolish in the fields of science, politics and anything else- including sports and celebrities. No one is spared so if this is shocking put it alongside any respect that might linger for their other reporting and lose it- fast.
