Sen. Lautenberg calls it like it is
Lee R. Raymond Oil Profitability Act
Body:

Earlier today on the Senate floor, Sen. Frank Lautenberg filed an amendment that would change the name of the offshore drilling bill from the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act to the Lee R. Raymond Oil Profitability Act. Lee Raymond is the former CEO of ExxonMobil who retired in 2005.

ExxonMobil posted a record profit of $10.36 billion for the second quarter of 2006, the second-largest profit report in American corporate history. Sen. Lautenberg highlighted the fact that gas prices have risen constantly since the beginning of the year while ExxonMobil rakes in "$4 million every hour in profit."

Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida tried to step in and object to Lautenberg's motion to file his amendment, but he should have been up on his facts; the filing of amendments is not forbidden under the majority's rules for this bill, only the motion to consider the amendment.

ExxonMobil, after paying Mr. Raymond over $140 million in compensation in 2005 alone, even offered to cover his country club memberships, according to Sen. Lautenberg.

This is from a blog of a DUer's son, he is watching and blogging the Senate floor action (so we don't have to). The blog has been a good read.

3. Good job to my soon-to-be ex-senator
I still don't get why his approval ratings are so low and that people think he will loose in 2008.

7. Way to go. He should file some more 'truth in bill naming' changes:
No Tree Left Behind Act (instead of Healthy Forests initiative)
Train Poor Kids to Serve Rich People Act (instead of No Child Left Behind act)
No Millionaire/Billionaire Left Behind Act (for all the tax breaks given to the wealthy)
Poison Our Air with Impunity Act (instead of the Clear Skies initiative)
Poison Our Water with Impunity Act (instead of the Clean Water act)
Keep People from Voting for Democrats Act (instead of the HAVA)
Establish a Fascist Police State Act (instead of the Patriot Act)
