As things get worse in the overall middle east, McCain will have a major millstone around his neck. When he ran in 2000, he honestly ran on the course Cheney/Bush wanted to take. He spoke of regime change in (I believe) 5 or 6 countries. Even now, he is against Bush on Iraq - only because he thinks more troops should be sent in. I don't think this will attract many Democrats.

I do agree he has a chance and I don't rule him out on age.

Number one reason...the man is just unlikable! He has a certain physical repulsiveness to him..a puffy ugliness about him. His voice has a sort of sick old lady whininess to it...there is just nothing about him that is presidential at all. People cannot relate to him on that level. And then there is that integrity problem...and no one will ever forget his lack of just backbone when bush and company attacked his mental health, his family and his child...and he did nothing..and then later kiss assed the same folk that attacked him, his wife and his family. people dont like that in a person.

18. My sense of McCain is

First, that he is a lurking danger, he could become the next neocon figurehead, and if the Republicans are not totally discredited he could be elected President.

Second, that it is proper and appropriate for us to be attacking him, but, when we attack him it is very important that we be polite, factually accurate, and evenhanded. Otherwise our attacks on him could easily backfire.
