Protests in European capitals against Israeli assault in Lebanon

PARIS (AFP) - Thousands of people demonstrated in Berlin, Bern and Paris, brandishing placards and shouting anti-Israeli slogans in protest at its offensive in Lebanon.

About 3,500 people took part in a peaceful demonstration in central Berlin called by a pro-Palestinian group, waving Lebanese flags and showing pictures of children mutilated by Israeli bombs.

Berlin has a Lebanese community numbering several tens of thousands.

More than 2,000 people turned out in Paris, carrying placards calling for the "immediate end to bombardments with no conditions."
