GOP GIVES PARIS HILTON $91M @ 2AM!
by David Grossman
Sat Jul 29, 2006 at 02:05:11 AM PDT

So the Republicans in the U.S. House stayed up until almost 2am tonight to give Paris Hilton some extra money (there's something funny about millions of dollars being showered on Paris Hilton in the dead of night, but I'll leave that joke for someone else to finish).

How much extra money? Try a cool $91,089,200.

5. There's somethiing more than obscene ...
... about the fact that if she worked for that money (nepotism), she'd be taxed on the earned income at rates up to about 35% ... but isn't taxed at all on millions she receives due to the death of another human being.

The GOP seems to adore the notion of profiting from the death of others.

12. Yes. They seem to think that benefiting from the death of others
Edited on Sat Jul-29-06 09:46 AM by TahitiNut
... is the "Christian" way. After all, if Jesus died for their sins, shouldn't anyone? It only makes sense, right? The more they sin, the more others should die. Figures.

:puke: Political necrophilia ... or, as H2O Man said: Necroconservatives.

19. They are profiting from the death of our democracy.
They are vampires sucking the life's blood out of our government with their patriot acts & looting the treasury in the process.

6. There needs to be an ad run, with Paris's porno video and the
words, "the GOP tied giving this rich cock-sucking slut 91 million dollars to increasing the minimum wage. Tell the Republicans whose dick they can suck in November."

10. That's an insanely misleading title.
Edited on Sat Jul-29-06 09:42 AM by Rabrrrrrr
They did not vote to give her $91 million. She is not, in fact, mentioned in the legislation at all.

Semantic bullshit trickery like this pisses me off. It's just as ugly when liberals do it as when the rightwingers do it.

Tell the truth, people; but don't clothe it in misleading assholery.

16. House passes hybrid bill...to delight Paris Hilton and depress her maid.
<snip>
The GOP package would increase the wage from $5.15 to $7.25 per hour, phased in over the next three years.

Under current law, the estate tax is phased out completely by 2010, but jumps back to 55 percent on estates larger than $1 million in 2011.

The bill passed Saturday would exempt $5 million of an individual's estate, and $10 million of a couple's, from estate taxes by 2015. Estates worth up to $25 million would be taxed at capital gains rates, currently 15 percent and scheduled to rise to 20 percent. Tax rates on the remainder of larger estates would fall to 30 percent by 2015.
