State Department Official -green light outrageous
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/5223114.stm
<snip>
But on Friday a spokesman for the US Department of State dismissed as "outrageous" a suggestion by Israel that it had been given a green light to continue its campaign.

The rest of the world thinks the US green light is outrageous.

1. On the other hand, why is the rest of the world seemingly paralyzed to
stop this? Why is it that the U.S. is holding everything up?

As it appears that the world is divided into the U.S. and everyone else, then why can't a coalition of countries be formed to work about a solution and bypass Condi and this country altogether and just get a ceasefire established (aside from the fact that it's be more than suggested that with the fierce fighting, any intervention force would also be in "harm's way")?

Civilians are dying on both sides of the border. How much longer will it take before it's "enough"?

3. I'm totally in agreement. If the rest of the world can't organize to
stop this madness right here, right now, it's not "check"; it's "checkmate".

I'm not talking necessarily the U.N. I'm talking governments of sovereign nations stepping up in the name of neutrality, not political advantage of the situation.

4. I've been wondering why
France, for example doesn't simply break off relations with both the US and Britain. Additionally, it's time for China to call in the debt. Deprive the US of war money and we will see change.

The saddest reality on our planet is that the Neocons are addicted to power and completely irrational re the failure of their goals. They are becoming desperate as time is running out. Note that they are trying to change laws to prevent themsleves from being charged for war crimes (MSNBC report today).

5. breaking off relations is counterproductive
that's an US attitude. If the US talked a little with Syria, Iran, Cuba (in a different context) maybe a lot of problems would be avoided. You break relations as an ultimate measure, which practically means war even if it's cold.

The problem is that you don't have a democratic power with enough strength to counter the US on the military level, not meaning attacking the uS, but with the ability to work independently. The EU doesn't have that strength.

If you play by the rules, it is little you can do when the US is vetoing all resolutions at the UN. Other players like Russia, China , Japan have other interests to save and are less keen to intervene.

6. Valid point
Thankfully I see others nations expressing their contempt for the US and exposing US Human Rights violations in other ways. Good to see the UN Human Rights body exposing the truth.

US 'outrage' over Israeli claims
Indian Muslims walk on the Israeli flag during a protest against Israeli actions in Lebanon
Israel's forceful campaign has caused fury among some US allies
The US state department has dismissed as "outrageous" a suggestion by Israel that it has been authorised by the world to continue bombing Lebanon.

"The US is sparing no efforts to bring a durable and lasting end to this conflict," said spokesman Adam Ereli.
WTF?

9. If the State dept. says its "outrageous" then they probably did
tell the Israelis that and somehow it got leaked. Now they are trying to deny it.
