I want peace
I want the bombings and missiles to stop dropping. I want people to live.

Temporary or everlasting -

Who knows but they must make a first step - and it all begins with a ceasefire.

I want the neoconservative agenda to wither away to dust - rejected for its human and economic cost, abhorrent lack of morality, and disregard of social conscience.
and I want to use the tool of peace to accomplish this enormous task.

I want Israeli's to be able to go about their daily lives without fear of suicide bombings, of mistrust and disdain for Palestinians.

I want palistinians to have a viable bright future without fear of Israeli incursions, illegal settlements, detentions, imprisonment and assasinations.

I want there to be an acceptable platform of laws(?) that would entrench palistinian and Israeli rights so there would be an avenue to air grievances, negotiate compensations and provide an unbiased solution to disputes. I want all the people to be empowered by this court, this avenue, instead of being compelled to strap on bombs and blow themselves up. I want hope for a better future.

I want hizbollah dismantled. I want Israel to give up its nuclear arms and WMD.

I want peace. Is that too much to ask for????

6. Congratulations!
You win the John Edwards award for the most meaningless post of the year. Everyone here wants ALL of those things. The question is how do we get there? How about a little analysis next time so we actually have something to talk about.

9. 3 posts
and already you are cajoling another DUer for wanting peace and becoming a spokesperson for everyone here.

Nice manners.

And no, I normally never consider the number of posts from a person, but when they act like they own the place from the get-go with a 3 post history, it grates my nerves.

15. Well pardon me...
...I guess I took the moderator's warning about needing a thick skin a little too seriously.
Yes I'm new to the DU but it's not going to stop me from saying what needs to be said: Members of the progressive movement are too concerned with our feelings! The original post is nothing but a big "Yeah us!" with no intellectual teeth to it. The responses to my admittedly curmudgeony post are all complaining about whose feelings I may have hurt. Why are we liberals ALWAYS worried about being offended? Let me tell you something, the opposition doesn't get their panties in a bunch so easily. One of the things I both admire and hate about the conservatives is that they are cool and calculating. They see what they want and they do what's needed to get it. They do not spend a lot of time worrying about what other people will think or say about them. It is both possible and necessary to embrace the level headed effectiveness of the Republicans without embracing their ethical corruption at the same time. Without it we will continue to be dismissed by much of the public as flaky wimps.

16. trust me, I am no flaky wimp
And I do not dispute your right to say what needs to be said. What I do dispute is your understanding of what needs to be said. If you are new here, then you should learn the community you are engaged with before you start generalizing it. That is basic netiquette, and it is in place not for sissies that can't take it. It is in place for you to have a chance at becoming a respected member of that community.

In this manner, when you say what needs to be said, people are more likely to listen and take heed.

As for the other issue of criticizing another for venting on this site, understand that there are many who just wish to type these things out and shout their beliefs somewhere where others agree. Everyone lives in different circumstances. If one were in a right-wing household with FOX news droning 24/7, posting on this site is tremendously cathartic. Let them do it and be happy that there is a place to do it. It is a little bandwidth, but it can contribute to saving one's sanity. Which is more valuable?

If you wish for intellectual teeth, there is plenty of fodder for you on this site. If this thread doesn't suit you, I recommend finding another in favor of posting specifically to criticize another DUer for expressing an opinion in which many of us agree. It will gain you more respect and allow another the catharsis they need. Everyone is happy.

Welcome to DU!

11. And what harm is there in reaffirming that to one's self?
Apparently a great many people have forgotten what freedom and democracy are supposed to mean.

You win the GWB Divisive award for the most insulting post on a topic calling for peace. Did you know if you have nothing to say, you don't have to respond?

12. Peace is not an awful lot to ask
I wonder who they are
The men who really run this land
And I wonder why they run it
With such a thoughtless hand

What are their names
And on what streets do they live
I'd like to ride right over
This afternoon and give
Them a piece of my mind
About peace for mankind
Peace is not an awful lot to ask

from David Crosby's "What Are Their Names"

It certainly seems to be, doesn't it.

Obviously not everyone shares your desires. Not that they don't want peace, but they want something else more. It's too damn bad.
