Can you name a left-wing MSM pundit?
Along with paid Democratic and Republican political consultants who appear regularly on MSM cable TV; CNN, MSNBC, FUX 'news' and other programming, one sees Right wing paid political pundits ("consultants") disseminating their point of view on a regular basis. Usually they will have a mainstream Democratic 'consultant' to offer the counterpoint. So, you have a strident, far-right pundit articulating their views against a moderate, more mild middle-of-the spectrum pundit. This moderate Democrat does not use the kind of hard-hitting language or the kind of attacks that his/her RW opponent usually does. But they are presented as spokesman for "Democrats" and "Republicans".

In my view, there is a real dearth of hard-left pundits to articulate the gross indecencies and incompetence of the B*sh Admin, and to block the below-the-belt verbal kicks and punches from Rwers disguised as 'Republicans' against their milder opponents. The MSM deliberately pits an ideologically centered Dem against a RW loon, time and time again.

Does anyone else agree? Can you name a left wing pundit that makes the rounds on the MSM? Katrina Van de Hueval editor of "The Nation" comes to mind, but I haven't seen her at all lately. Randi Rhodes made a few appearances on Dobbs, but had a bad experience there last time and said she won't be back. Keith Olbermann, host, is the only MSM forum friendly to our views. If a person doesn't watch KO, they don't hear it anywhere else.

Who is being allowed to speak for us?

7. No.
Randi Rhodes on AAR is mainstream media, or "MSM."

Randi on Lou Dobbs is Corporate Media.

11. Ron Reagan, but he lost his show on MSNBC
I'm thinking, I'm thinking.

E.J. Dionne, now and then. Bill Press, rarely. Hilary somebody, a blond woman who can be pretty good on MSNBC.

You're right. I can name two dozen on the right with little effort.

Tweety has 3 pundits on to discuss the issues of the day-- usually Scarborough, Tucker Carlson and Rita Cosby! 3 Right-of-the-spectrum pundits.

Case Closed.

16. Bernie Ward
I'd say that Bernie is probably the best progressive pundit in the business. He's more knowledgeable than any of the others, and he has that remarkable encyclopedic memory. Plus, he is extremely practiced in the art of freeper take down. When he gets on the pundit shows, no neocon stands a chance.

Randi Rhodes does an adequate job as well. But she's no Bernie Ward.

Have you seen him recently? I'm still waiting for someone like Noam Chomsky to get even one TV appearance on national television.

The guy was so owned by Bernie that he walked off the MS-NBC set. It might still be on Crooks and Liars. It is, see below.

Here it is:
Bernie Ward spanks Chris Baker

Bernie Ward at his finest. Baker stood no chance at all.
Moderated by the MS/NBC chick with the upside-down eyes.

17. I think it's a matter of prospective.
As much as we may be annoyed by conservative pundits, we really need to look at things honestly and soberly. Most of us here at the DU have a more global view of life and politics. We see our place on the worldwide spectrum of politics and as such, regard ourselves as somewhat left of center. We also think of conservative pundits as right-wing-nuts. The problem is that global politics are considerably left of US politics. Like it or not, in the US Bill O'Reilly is slightly right of center and we are the fringe. The MSM is not without liberal voices, they are just more muted than we would like to see. It's unfortunate but understandable that American television would bring an American prospective to the story. We are not seeing conservative bias, we are seeing American bias. What we need to call for is not more liberal, but more global viewpoints. I'd like to see the networks full of international voices who would show Americans their place in the world.

18. good points and welcome to DU
I would love to see the BBC news casts shown on MSM outlets, not just PBS.

Our inability to see ourselves as others see us is a major weakness.

A lot of men would quit dancing if by chance they saw themselves in a mirror.

We need that mirror.
