US Belief that Iraq Had Weapons of Mass Destruction Has Increased Greatly
Despite being widely reported in the media that the U.S. and other countries have not found any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, surprisingly; more U.S. adults (50%) think that Iraq had such weapons when the U.S. invaded Iraq. This is an increase from 36 percent in February 2005.

Overall, attitudes toward the war in Iraq are negative, and less than half of the U.S. population believes that the threat of terrorism has been reduced. By 56 to 37 percent, a majority is not confident that Iraq will be successful in developing a stable and reasonably democratic government. This has improved slightly from November 2005, when a larger 61 to 32 majority felt this way.

Seventy-two percent believe that the Iraqis are better off now than they were under Saddam Hussein (slightly down from February 2005 when 76 percent said this was true). Just over half (55%) think history will give the U.S. credit for bringing freedom and democracy to Iraq (down substantially from 64% in February 2005).

Sixty-four percent say it is true that Saddam Hussein had strong links to Al Qaeda (the same as 64% in February 2005).

My opinion of the US public is quite low.

5. Of course they believe it
They have to, because to do otherwise would mean that all the lives lost, all the maimed, all the money wasted, was all in vain.

Unfortunately their small minds are not capable of accepting the truth.

6. Amazing how well that propaganda works
This is just another example of the old adage "tell a lie long enough and loud enough and people will eventually believe it" in action. Despite there being no findings of WMD, the US population has been continously bombarded by Faux and other elements of the RW echo chamber repeating, insinuating and downright lying about this matter that finally, half the people believe them.

Hitler and Goebbels would be so proud of Bushco:eyes:

18. More Amazing is how ineptly the Dems have responded
Given daily news that the N.I.E. was basically cooked to justify a war of aggression.

19. Actually I don't find that suprising at all
After all, I would imagine that half the Democrats in Washington actually back Israel to the hilt, right or wrong, and the other half is so afraid of being labeled an anti-semite, they're not going to say "boo" no matter what Israel does.

Thus, they all remain pretty silent, and the carnage proceeds apace. Sad and pathetic, yes, but hardly suprising.

7. Just proves what relentless propaganda can accomplish. Any wonder
the North Koreans believe as they do when they are even less likely to hear another point of view? And I do believe that the increase has largely to do with events on the ground in Lebanon the majority of the adults interviewed having more sympathy toward the plight of the Israelis and see the US invasion of Iraq as being a political link to what is going on in Lebanon...you know, the enemy of my friend is my enemy.

8. It's amazing how humane the terrorists in Iraq are,
since they don't use their best weapons (WMDs) when attacking our troops ... (:sarcasm:)

Oh, wait, the weapons were in Syria ...

Oh, wait, the weapons were given to Iran by Saddam Hussein, their mortal enemy ...

:silly:

22. I Heard People Repeating His Lie At Work
I heard twice people saying, "well the news won't report it, but we did find them, and it was classifed". That's why i knew it was the Santorum lie, because his excuse for just now finding out was that it had been classified.

I told everyone who was there, that this was a lie that had been debunked by our own Dept. of Defense.

10. In looking for someone to blame for how badly things are going
it's easier to believe a smaller lie (WMD) than it is to believe the big lie (your country is lying to you and getting people killed for nothing)

Trying to exact reason from insanity, people will tend to accept that Iraq had WMD before they'll believe their country lied them into war.

If you believe Iraq had WMD , then you don't have to confront your government.

Folks are digging themselves in to justify the America's actions.

Sad

and what all the experts were saying before the war. David Kay, the CIA, the FBI, Joe & Valerie Wilson - all pretty well knew Iraq was contained and not a WMD threat.

I've heard some rumblings from a repug friend that Saddam shipped all his WMDs to Syria. That's fallacious simply due to the fact that our satellites would have picked up the mass lines of trucks exiting Iraq and going to Syria. Furthermore, if that were really happening, why would Powell have used such wobbly evidence before the UN? Rather, he would have shown satellite photo after satellite photo showing mass lines of trucks leaving the country.

13. Your's, mine, and Mencken's opinion of the US public are the same.
“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” - H.L. Mencken
