A Victory for Lamont is a Victory for the Democratic Underground.

I say that this forum and others have made a local CT campaign into a kind of national referendum of the restructuring of the Democratic Party back to its roots. The election in CT is a kind of test for the new internet democracy, where people who are looking to share their views with others get support, discussion and review of their ideas. This is a kind of grass roots movement of the electronic sort of modern communications. In a way that the town hall meeting and local organizations can use this resource to bring the Democratic Party back as the party of the working man and family, with greater influence coming back into the party from the voters, instead of the corporate sponsors (DLC), who only care about what we think just before the November elections, and then quickly forget about us.

Those Democrats, like Leiberman, who have lost touch with the voters and posters here, still wonder who we are, how has the playing field changed. They see us as the threat to thier kingdom.

No, more. We are a force to be reckoned with, and we will not go away.

2. As much as I want Lamont to win...
The real victory for all of us would be to remove as many Republicans from office as we can. If Lieberman is part of a Democratic majority in the Senate, I won't be complaining.

3. Yes, that is the most important priority.
But if we can get a better Democrat in there than we are much better off.

6. have you seen the polls? It's very possible -
Lamont has come from nowhere to a) have ten point lead in the primary and to be neck and neck with Lieberman in a three way race. That's not very iffy that's well within reach - Ned will have the boost from winning the primary and Lieberman's pathetic campaign skills sure as hell are not going to improve.

I would argue that this is not a victory for DU or the Blogs, they helped but I think this is a victory for the people of CT who are saying an elected Representative should represent the people who elected him and not act like he's a member of the house of lords.

13. Er, take note of the post I was responding to.
The post I was responding to said " If Lieberman is part of a Democratic majority in the Senate..." The big if is that Lieberman is a Democrat at all.

12. As long as it isn't a 51-49 majority
Because then it'll be effectively a 49-51 minority.

5. Good point.
You should expand this to a longer op-ed piece. I have long toyed with various ideas to make the internet a secure method for a huge percentage of the citizenry to vote but the other activities are of far greater importance.
The pooh-poohing of the blogosphere as just a bunch of crazies with no real impact, totally oblivious to the fact that a lot of the conventional political gatherings and organization have moved to the internet, needs to be written about and held up to the attention of the ignorant, mid twentieth century stumblebums we employ in Washington DC.

7. It's an exciting race, definitely, and political junkies from all over are
enthralled.

It's one for the history books no matter the outcome.

I love Lamont's immediate position of supporting the winner of the Democratic primary. When Lieberman said he'd leave all options open, including a petition drive for signatures to run as an independent if he lost, I think at that point he lost favor with a lot of people.

To me, it's not only the Iraq question that has wounded Joe. It's a more pervasive disconnect.

I think Lamont's in a great position right now to become a U.S. Senator.

8. It will be a great testement to online organizing and netroots activism.
I imagine that the incumbant class of politicians will be quite nervous if Joe is knocked off. The message is, if you don't start acting like Democrats, your future might not be very bright.

10. As much as the traditional media wants to belittle it, the internet
is a force to be reconned with.

Without premature confidence, I think this campaign is one for the books.

It is also making clear how we feel about this criminal war.

11. I was thinking precisely the same thing this morning
Another example is how the punditry are already crowning Hillary as the frontrunner and having the Democratic nom in '08 if she wants it.

They are failing to reckon with the fact that if the grassroots do not want Hillary that from now on if will be a far different game than it even was in '04.

The punditry and many in the Dem party have better learn this.

I'm really rooting (and contributing) to Lamont's campaign! It is a victory for those of us who are working to take back the Democratic party.
