So many beautiful people trying to change the world
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 05:08 AM by MichaelHarris
Saturday morning, Michigan Ave in Chicago on my way to the Magnifcant Mile I rounded the corner into Democracy. I love Democracy. That and the fact that I had just bought a 60 year old Elmar 50mm lens for my Leica and wanted to try it out. Politics aside this camera and lens was made for this moment:

When the issue is peace how can you not choose a side? I will always choose peace, I will always stand with those who want freedom, and those who want to stop the killing. Look into the eyes of the young and see the anger, turn that into love and the world has a chance.

Michael Harris

1. The partisans
Ardent and cemented supporters of Israel will say they are defending democracy by defending Israel, which has a parliament and the vote. Ardent and cemented supporters of Lebanon will say they are defending democracy by defending Lebanon, which has a parliament and the vote.

I'm with you, Michael. I choose peace.

Who can we speak to in Israel, Hezbollah, Syria, Iran and America so we can convince them we have the right way to go?

Hm.

I'll make a deal with you. I'll start with my neighbor, and you start with yours.

My neighbor is Jewish and supports peace, I hope my pictures can lay the first stone in the bridge to peace.

7. It would appear that everyone in the world wants a ceasefire, except
George W. Bush, his criminal administration, their criminal co-conspirators in Congress, and the Israelis.

27. I would suggest you meant the Israeli government rather than
the Israelis?

The Israeli people, nearest I can tell, are as horrified at their government's actions as we, American people, are horrified at our government's actions. With some notable exceptions much as we have here in the U.S.

If I am incorrect, I apologize for misreading your words.

9. i suspect israel is no more a democracy any more than we are
the military industrial complex does not recognize borders. it is worldwide.
i have no facts, just the gut feeling that the kind of dirty pool played in our campaigns and elections here, also happen there. i would be happy to hear the facts from someone who knows them.
our "aid" to israel does not go to israel. it goes to ge, lockheed, martin marietta, etc.
the citizens of israel need to take their country back from the thugs, as do we.

11. Excellent shots
The black and white provides a certain timelessness to your photos; as if things are just repeating themselves over and over, decade after decade, generation after generation.

How many more times are we going to walk down this road?

We seem to have to walk this road everytime a world sells us fear and hatred. Now they have networks such as Fox News bringing it to us 24/7.

I wish I could put into words my feelings, there was nothing but love and peace with these people. About as close as I can get is to look into their eyes and see the pain with a glimmer of hopefullness.

34. The only sad part is that it's mostly ANSWER who's standing up for them
No one else seems to be endorsing the peace here, to be standing up for Lebanon and Gaza. United for Peace and Justice has condemned the violence, but it hasn't organized any rallies or vigils to my knowledge. Hillary, Feingold, Lamont, Clark -- they've given the greenlighting to the deaths of what will probably be at least 10,000 more Arabs.

THESE are the brave people here who should be in office all around the world -- the people of peace.

Great pics, man. Thanks for sharing these.

I wish both Israel and Hezbollah could see that they're playing hackey-sack with the whole rest of the world's future by engaging in this petty fucking war. Both sides need to grow the fuck up and coexist.
