Charlotte NC police shoot telco-worker
Check this article out:

http://www.wsoctv.com/news/9548998/detail.html?subid=22105245&qs=1;bp=t

of note is this passage from the police involved:

Payne said he identified himself and told Furr not to move. Police said Furr then reached behind his back and pulled out a handgun. Officers said Furr was told to put down his gun but refused, and instead raised it in the direction of the officer and walked toward him. After refusing the officer's commands, Payne fired his gun, killing Furr.

Call me cynical, or maybe I have just read one too many artices about cops all over the country being found guilty of everything from murder to child pronography, but I don't buy this one stinkin bit. According to the company the guy who was shot works for, it would not be unusual for him to have been in the building and he would not have been carrying a weapon. Add to that the fact that the only person's word we have about what happened is the officer who shot him and I think this really stinks.

LMK what y'all think.

1. OTOH
...although I don't know anything about this story specifically, if the cop is telling the truth it sounds like a classic case of "suicide by cop".

2. Too many facts not reported in the story
Why has the company not stated wether he was or was not an employee? My personal philosophy is you can never be cynical enough.

4. I thought that as well
they obviously had some comment when contacted. Perhaps the POC for the telco had not yet been able to 100% ascertain the status of his employment. Would make sense in the "suicide by cop" scenario.

Yet, I always think it is suspicious when the only cop on the scene says "the guy had a gun" - call it one too many movies or whatever you want to call it, my feelings are genuine. Stories of bad cops are everywhere, today, and the crimes aren't pretty.

I'm glad, at least, that the internet is here to feed my all-too-active sense of paranoia. Keeps me safe :)

6. the facts
The tower is in a bad part of town, the company has said that the worker was supposed to be there. The inside of the room is very dark and noisy (I have been in it). Sounds like a terrible accident, nothing more.
