Grim proof ordinary citizens are being killed in South Lebanon
"It's a disaster. It's making me cry," the hospital's director, Dr Salman Zeineddine said. "We can't move them anywhere else. Since the attacks came I've been trying to get wounded out of Beit Jbeil and I can't. How could I get critical patients to Beirut, much less move dead people?"

Since Israel began bombing and shelling south Lebanon last Wednesday, about 380 patients have passed through this 65-bed hospital, plus the 91 dead.

Not one of the victims, he says, has been a member of Hezbollah, the militia group that triggered Israel's onslaught with a border raid last week.

"The army and Hezbollah - I don't care if they kill all of them," he said. "But the civilians - it's very hard. Everyone who has come in here has been a civilian."

(snip)

While the Israeli Defence Force claims that it does its best to avoid harming civilians, it insists on its right to attack the "terrorists" who, it says, are using the population as "human shields". Its list of self-declared legitimate targets expanded yesterday to include all trucks south of the Litani River and all "structures used by terrorists".

(snip)

There was no answering fire: Tyre is too far north to be a suitable launch site for Hezbollah missiles targeting Israel, and the city has no defence against air attack.

The bombs always strike without warning. The constant sound of jets and unmanned drones overhead, out of sight in the hazy sky, makes it impossible to know an attack has been launched until the earth suddenly convulses and - a moment or two later - the concussion strikes.

Yesterday the Israelis dropped leaflets across the region to "ensure the safety of Lebanese civilian population". A statement said: "The leaflets are intended to warn the Lebanese public to stay clear of areas from which rockets are launched against Israel, as these will be targeted by the and civilians present in those areas are endangering their lives."

In other words, there is no where for the Lebanese citizens to go, and of course the IDF has to know this.

It's the children . . . they are the ones who suffer the most.

-- You know I just get the feeling that this aggression toward Lebanon is just displaced aggression -- that both Israel and the US would rather be bombing Iran or Syria. But they can get away with going after Lebanon -- and this war has been in the planning stages since they pulled out of Lebanon in 2000 and finalized just last year. They were waiting for an excuse . . .

Israel set war plan more than a year ago
Strategy was put in motion as Hezbollah began increasing its military strength

So the US KNEW that Lebanon was going to be attacked -- probably the "when" depended on getting Hizbolla to react or do something that could be used as an excuse.

And then the research that I came up with today about Sharon saying that Israel would go to war with Lebanon over water -- it turns out that water is a very big issue with Israel and that this would not be the first war Israel has fought over water.

WATER wars will become more and more common -- and are already the root cause of many wars.

Israel warns of war over water

n alleged Lebanese scheme to divert water from a river feeding Israel's largest reservoir could provoke a war, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has warned.

Israeli army radio quoted the prime minister as saying on Tuesday that the issue constituted a "casus belli", or "grounds for war".

He was addressing senior military and civilian officials after a cabinet meeting.

Lebanon opened a pumping-station on the River Hasbani in the spring of 2001 to irrigate a drought-stricken village but denies that it plans to dam the river.

The river supplies between 20 and 25% of the water flowing into the Sea of Galilee, an official at Israel's Ministry of Agriculture was quoted as saying by the French news agency AFP.

It rises in Lebanon and flows for about 50 kilometres (30 miles) through its territory before joining the River Jordan and emptying into the Sea of Galilee.

Warning

Army radio said Mr Sharon had notified the United States that Israel could mount military operations should Lebanon begin pumping water out of the Hasbani or its tributary, the River Wazzani.

5. So it's not the dead bodies of innocent victims that upsets you
Instead it's the "Godly Israel" phrase?

8. Was I talking to you?
Just because I didn't wail and throw myself to the ground or damn Israel to Hell doesn't mean I don't find the death of innocents distressing.

6. Bless you Erika. I cannot see any more deaths for a while.
It's too much. I have to take a break.

However, your post is so appreciated and valued.

Thanks.

13. Well, blowing up bridges and roads makes it DAMN HARD TO ESCAPE!
This is not acceptable. There must be a cease-fire.

14. Of course they know that.
It reminds me of the "rations" we dispensed to Afghanis that was packaged almost exactly like cluster bombs. Not exactly the same thing, but the same result. Where are they to go? If they travel, they're apparently targets, the roads and bridges have been bombed, and if they stay where they're at, their neighborhoods may be taken out because a "terrorist" might have once lived there.

15. Good effort ....
But it will still fail to penetrate the shield of deniability surrounding many people.
