This always puzzles me... No. Don't talk about that. We don't want to discuss that. That will only bring out the hate mongers. Put that subject in the cooler. We are not capable of discussing that in an adult manner. That makes me angry if you don't agree with me. We have suffered enough. That is not an acceptable subject to discuss. That is flamebait. Locking...locking....Mommy...make' em stop. :)

they have been very restrained in their response.

...there are a small handful of people that tend to fuck it up for everyone else.

9. Israel first and cheap labor are the biggest issues of the last 30 years..
and both parties have clubbed the USA over the head with it, with not nearly enough debate.

11. When emotion leaks into the discussion
logic and reason fall to the wayside and civility suffers mortal wounds.

12. Good explanation, Julie...
emotion. We must learn to control our emotions. However, sometimes that is almost impossible.

15. Well, that is true...
:) "We" meaning DU in general. But we should be sensitive to the feelings of others, can "we" agree?

17. Whichever of the two options,
while I am undeniably a core voter of the Democratic party, I can post ten topics right now or any given time off the top of my head that would get me FLAMED in the most vicious way.

18. I am when it comes to inter-racial relations, specifically, "light skinned
vs. dark skinned" African-Americans. I was at a HBCU for nearly two years and had a large number of African-American student workers who frequently weren't very busy at the circulation desk. Often they began a discussion on "X thinks she's so much better than us" or "Y is just dumb, he even looks dumb with that bad hair," etc.

Often they would be obviously half-jesting, and often asked, "Mr. Hughes, what do you think?"

My only answer was always the same: "I am enjoying just listening to you kids talk and seeing your viewpoints, that I wouldn't dare intrude upon the conversation."

Usually they would push me, "Come on!"

Then came my ultimate response, "Now my skin is pretty dark, and my hair pretty coarse, but I'm only 'Black Irish' and not Black, and if you think I will touch that with a ten foot pole, y'all buggin' up in heah."

Usually that changed the topic to me using Ebonics at work!

19. Yeah, can't we have a forum just stuff like this or something?
It kind of used to be GD until the latest rules update or so. I mean, I like to push shit too far, so I don't take it personally when my threads get locked, but it does seem like valid arguments are starting to get locked more often. Can't we have one forum of the brazillion here where we can roughhouse verbally a little without taking the beach ball away?
