well maybe not the worst. But this e-mail sent to me by a friend sure ranks up there. I put his e-mail in bold, my response in italics... Did I know? well I know quite a few things. Let me tell you what I know... Did you know that the Iraqi government currently employs 1.2 million Iraqi people? None of whom can admit it lest they become targets. In fact, the entrance to the green zone is considered one of the most dangerous areas in baghdad. http://archive.salon.com/news/feature/2004/02/20/conquerors/index_np.htmlDid you know that 3100 schools have been renovated, 364 schools are under rehabilitation, 263 schools are now under construction and 38 new schools have been built in Iraq?
Did you know that Iraq's higher educational structure consists of 20 Universities, 46 Institutes or colleges and 4 research centers, all currently operating? Did you know that iraq had these things BEFORE the invasion? In fact, iraq had one of the best educational systems in the middle east, giving women equal access to the schools.
Unlike Pakistan and Saudi Arabia (you know, our ALLIES)
Do you really get points for repairing stuff when you're the one that broke it in the first place? Did you know that the Iraqi Navy is operational? They have 5 100-foot patrol craft, 34 smaller vessels and a naval infantry regiment.
Did you know that Iraq's Air Force consists of three operational squadrons, which includes 9 reconnaissance and 3 US C-130 transport aircraft (under Iraqi operational control) which operate day and night, and will soon add 16 UH-1 helicopters and 4 Bell Jet Rangers? Wow, will this include the three battalions of combat ready iraqis that then went down to one battalion that then went down to zero combat ready battalions? http://cunningrealist.blogspot.com/2005/10/credibility-chasm.htmlDid you know that Iraq has a counter-terrorist unit and a Commando Battalion? Of course, like the schools, they had these before. Did you know that the Iraqi Police Service has over 55,000 fully trained and equipped police officers? Most of whom work there only because there are no other jobs.
Oh and a third of which are insurgency infiltrators using the training they get to kill our troops. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/07/25/iraq.police/index.htmlDid you know there are more than 1100 building projects going on in Iraq? They include 364 schools, 67 public clinics, 15 hospitals, 83 railroad stations, 22 oil facilities, 93 water facilities and 69 electrical facilities. Did you know that's what companies like Haliburton were PAID to build. Unfortunately none of that actually materialized. Iraqis in Baghdad still only get a few hours of electricity at most during the day. They get their water from the Tigris. And that oil that was suppose dot pay for all of this? Well, lets just say that even if there hadn't been an insurgency, wolfowitze's claim that Iraq's oil would pay for our invasion were a bit.... optimistic.
However, The reconstruction has managed to make several TONNES of American currency disappear. http://news.findlaw.com/andrews/bf/gov/20051215/20051215wheeler.htmlhttp://uspolitics.about.com/b/a/207718.htmDid you know that 96% of Iraqi children under the age of 5 have received the first 2 series of polio vaccinations? Did you know that the only thing preventing iraqi kids from getting vaccinations before were US sanctions that listed vaccines and antibiotics as 'duel use" items that could have been used as bio war fare agents? Did you know that 4.3 million Iraqi children were enrolled in primary school by mid October?
Did you know that there are 1,192,000 cell phone subscribers in Iraq and phone use has gone up 158%? Did you know that when an arab company from Dubai tried to set up a phone system, it worked perfectly but they were forced to shut it down so an American company with connections to the administration would get the no-bid contract?
And the phones didn't work. Seems these guys didn't know how to interface with the phone systems in the Middle East.

Oh, and remind me, who destroyed the land lines in iraq again? Did you know that Iraq has an independent media that consists of 75 radio stations, 180 newspapers and 10 television stations? Many of which were shut down because of stories critical of the US occupation. Did you know that the Baghdad Stock Exchange opened in June of 2004? And with a 60% unemployment rate, almost no Iraqis have the money to buy stocks in their own country.
BUT non-iraqis do. And they do. Did you know that 2 candidates in the Iraqi presidential election had a televised debate recently? Of course there were at least 10 candidates. Most were afraid to run openly lest they become targets. OF COURSE WE DIDN'T KNOW! . . . . . and WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW? Because most of what is here is crap. it's half truths, spin or just outright lies. OUR MEDIA WOULDN'T TELL US! They didn't tell us that our "leader" was justifying war with non-existent IAEA reports, fraudulent reports of Nigerian uranium, and outright fabrications. Instead of reflecting our love for our country, we get photos of flag burning incidents at Abu Ghraib and people throwing snowballs at the presidential motorcades.
The lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves two purposes. It is intended to undermine the world's perception of the United States thus minimizing consequent support, and it is intended to discourage American citizens. Blind subserviance to the government and ignoring when it does wrong is neither love nor patriotism. It's fascism. And there was more then "ffag burning" going on at Abu Ghraib. here's a few things you may not have known..
Ken lay was one of the architects of the Iraq invasion. remember that 'energy task force" of cheney's that he refused to talk about?
There are death squads being run out of the iraqi ministry of the Interior
Iraq is the only country whose banking system is owned by people outside it's country.
iraq was one of the largest concrete manufacturers in the Middle east even during the sanctions. But after the invasion, these concrete factories were all shut down,it's people laid off, and sold to non-iraqis.
Almost NONE of the companies paid to rebuild iraq were from iraq. Even the first McDonalds in Baghdad had Pakistani workers.
Turkey is threatening to invade iraq because of the actions of the Kurds.
Thousands of Iraqis are fleeing the country because of the violence. Especially those with valuable skills. even if new hospitals were being opened, the doctors to run them are leaving in droves.

Oh, and look at Paul Bremer's "special orders" sometime. orders 39 and 100 are particularly interesting.

Oh and have you looked at Afghanistan lately?
I'm happy to provide more links but not now. Most of this is OLD news and I would have to take time to dig it up. ---- Above facts are verifiable on the Department of Defense web site. Ah yes. On other gov web sites you can find out that tears spread aids and that global warming isn't' happening (No matter how much of the polar ice cap is melting)
Excuse my cynicism. But the statement above is like telling me I should go to PRAVDA for 'verifiable facts" on the Soviet Union. If Shrub lied us into iraq, why wouldn't he continue to LIE to us now?
I know you meant well in sending me this. But surely you could see this for the weak attempt at propaganda it is. You're smarter then to fall for this.
next time , look for yourself and don't believe someone just because they are telling you what you want to hear. maybe I was too hard on him. But this kind of cons pin just really ticked me off. It's nothign but half truths and authoritarian spin. Feel free to add anything you want to this. and be on the look out. I doubt this is the only time this e-mail will get sent out.
