Which one of these symbolizes our country?

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Or:

"A red banner, crossed by six white stripes, with a blue canton defaced by fifty white five-pointed stars."

I'm sorry, but I have to go with the first. The recent attempts to desecrate our constitution with an amendment to outlaw the desecration of our flag makes me have very little faith in our legislators. Especially those 14 Democrats who voted for it (Baucus, Bayh, Dayton, Feinstein, Johnson, Landrieu, Lincoln, Menendez, Nelson (Fl), Nelson (Ne), Reid, Rockefeller, Salazar, and Stabenow). Bizarre kudos go to Mitch McConnell, the sole Republican voting against it.

You may have noticed I like flags. I'm a dork that way. I design flags for states that have lame flags in the eventual hope that they'll be adopted by the state legislatures.

That being said, I simply cannot understand why people have any sort of reverence for any flag to the point of desecrating the document that actually makes our country exist, and also gave our country the potential for greatness in the 18th century and today. This new religion of flag worship is highly disturbing, extremely bizarre, and completely contrary to the freedoms articulated in our constitution.

12. The fasces is also on the back of the "Mercury" dime.
From the first part of the 20th century. The front is beautiful, but the back makes me queasy.

8. I agree, I'm not saying I am going to go out and burn the flag
Just, if I'm forced to choose, as the flag worshipers insist, between the flag or the constitution, I'll choose the constitution any day of the week.

As much as Duh-bya thinks that the Constitution doesn't mean anything (or at least that he's "above" the laws found there), the Constitution is what makes our country great.
