Patriotism is a wedding where everyone--down to the bride--wears a flag
pin prominently on their outfit.

I was wandering through Barnes and Noble yesterday, and came across a book called "Patriotisms" ...

It was one of those little gift books, slightly bigger than a deck of cards, and each page had one "definition" of patriotism. The wedding one was the second (and last) one I flipped to.

For some reason, the book was in the bargain bin--marked all the way down to two dollars--and there was a big stack of them still available. :shrug:

1. Say this wedding wasn't in the U.S.,
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 01:23 PM by Totally Committed
but in Gaza, and everyone, down to the bride wore a Palestinian flag on their clothing. Or in Mexico, or Italy, or Germany.... What would it be called then? Think about it.

6. I think it's different when you wear the flag of the biggest and baddest
of all the world players. It's like a grownup calling attention to himself in a roomful of children. It's unseemly.

12. I think it would be called a little weird
I don't think that, for instance, many prospective brides and grooms in Italy would think to have everyone at their wedding (or even everyone in the wedding party) wear the Italian flag. I could be wrong.

I'm going to a wedding in Mexico next week. Perhaps I should suggest the idea to my brother-in-law. I'm guessing, but I think he would find it an odd suggestion.

9. I have something similar
In my spare time, I'm a magician and balloon twister, and I tend to dress like a 1920s carnival barker - white shirt with a bowtie and garters around my upper arms, boater hat, and a striped vest. I have several other vests for the Holidays - Halloween, Christmas, and 4th of July. The 4th of July one was only worn once this year when I worked a yacht club, and as I passed from table to table, I heard a lot of republican-speak. But, hey, showing up in a goofy flag vest gets me better tips so I can't complain too much. :)

10. i can see where it would make sense in that line of work
the vests lend themselves to showmanship, I think. And, hey, if it gets you better tips, by all means.

I think it'd be a little weird for a wedding, though :)

11. I agree
Although when I was engaged (which fell through), my girlfriend was thinking that I should do the decorations for the wedding myself, and that I should wear my normal carnival barker outfit, and I thought that would be fine since it would save money, and I hate tuxedos.

7. and the raised dance floor is a platform of coffins
Dancing on the dead, flag wavers day;
longing in dread, truth doth betray;
dead on the bed, shot by the way;
deceptively lead, republican way.
