this picture says it all...

Lebanese soldiers secure the area as US nationals wait to board a military boat to flee Lebanon at a private port in Dbaiyeh. US Marines and two warships today secured a port being used by the United States to evacuate its citizens from Lebanon. Some 300 US nationals baked under a fierce summer sun with no shelter outside hastily erected barbed wire barriers around the port of Dbayieh, as Lebanese troops blocked all traffic on the access road.(AFP/Ramzi Haidar)

2. I feel sorry for our fellow citizens who have found themselves.....
in the middle of this war. I heard a comment a few minutes ago (MSNBC) from a young man who had arrived on Cyprus. I hope he tells his story again,& again, & again and then some. He went from house to house and escaped, obviously, but he told of the indiscriminate bombing (I don't know what else you'd call it) of gas stations, pastures with cows, private homes, et. al. Maybe having Americans see this inhumanity is a good thing. The government can't shut them up if they choose to tell their stories. This young man's account gave me more insight to the situation than I've heard from any MSM reporter.

5. it's not a contest in suffering
the picture tells of the hardships of US citizens caught into a fucked up evacuation Katrina style, it has nothing to do with the theme you are exploiting. Or do you mean that US-Lebanese don't really count ?

and I would be VERY careful into comparing the hardships of civilians in Israel and the ones in Lebanon, if I were you.

and I still fail to understand why the dismay of a little US girl can be put in comparison with the one of an Israeli child...

11. once for all
the girl on the picture is a victim of the neocon incompetence in rescuing stranded US-citizens. She is an innocent victim of criminal incompetence.

Why it has to be compared to the suffering of Israeli children beats me, unless you are implying that her suffering is RELATIVE compared to the one of some Israeli children and obviously not to OTHER children of OTHER nationalities caught in the middle of the mayhem.

That's why your comparison is completely irrelevant. You could as well compared with kids in Darfur that suffer even more. Unless the reasoning is "big deal" compared to "ours". That's why I wonder if some counts more than others, despite shared nationalities and place on earth.
