I need some info regarding a Watergate event
Specifically about the December 1972 airplane crash at Midway that killed Dorothy (Mrs. E Howard) Hunt, Michelle Clark (a rising star reporter at CBS) and a local congressman, among 43 others. I have read that Mrs. Hunt had thousands of $$$ but cannot find any verification/debunking on Snopes. I have read conspiracy theories about blackmail/hush money etc., but I'd like something more factual.

2. Thank you
A wad of cash like that does lead to speculation doesn't it? It's an angle of the scandal that I don't think has been explored adequately-of course at this late date I guess it doesn't matter much.

In November, 1972, Richard M. Nixon was re-elected President. One month later, on behalf of the Nixon White House, America's secret political police, the American Gestapo, the FBI, and the American CIA, arranged to sabotage a commercial airplane headed for Chicago. On board were twelve Watergate figures, including Dorothy Hunt, wife of the Watergate burglar, E.Howard Hunt. They had reportedly blackmailed two million dollars out of Nixon threatening, among other things, to publicize documents they had showing Tricky Dick, along with top officials of the FBI and the CIA, had planned and carried out the political assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Interestingly, it states there were survivors from the crash. :tinfoilhat:

5. And don't forget, Maccagirl, money was worth a lot more in 1972.
In 1974, I bought a new Audi for $3,000.

3. As I recall
Hunt's wife did indeed die in a plane crash and had a good deal of money in her posession but nothing came of the investigation:

"...Flight 533 left Washington D.C. for Omaha, Nebraska stopping in Chicago. Approaching Midway the pilot was instructed by the control tower to execute a "missed approach" pattern. The pilot applied full power to go around for another landing attempt. At 2:27 p.m., 1.5 miles from the airport, Flight 533 hit the branches of trees on the south side of 71st Street. It then hit the roofs of a number of neighborhood bungalows before plowing into the home of Mrs. Veronica Kuculich at 3722 70th Place, demolishing the home and killing her and a daughter, Theresa. The plane burst into flames killing a total of 45 persons, 43 of them on the plane, including the pilot and first and second officers. Eighteen passengers survived.

Among the passengers killed were U.S. Representative George Collins (7th), a former 24th Ward Alderman, and Mrs. Dorothy Hunt. Her husband, E. Howard Hunt, had been indicted on charges of conspiring to break into the Democratic National Committee Headquarters in the Watergate Hotel. Found in the debris was a purse belonging to Mrs. Hunt containing $10,585 in cash..."
