My View On Hillary's Comments
I feel that Hillary's comments were most appropriate, especially on a day when we were honoring the life and work of a man who dedicated himself to giving political voice to people of color. Yes, her words were strong, but they were very accurate. They were true. I admire her for the guts it took to make such a bold statement, when many other Democrats have cowered like scared little children too afraid to speak up to Daddy. Hillary's honesty and courage are like a breath of fresh air. I think MLK may have been very proud to see that there are still people today who are continuing to speak out and press us toward the mark.

Some of you may disagree, but this is just my take on the subject. :)

1. There is a sickness in America. Something that was never dealt
with. And it is being used - the same as any weakness by those in power.

Many people feel the anti-tax movement has its basis in racism.

Lots of people talked about it after Katrina.

It is entirely appropriate for Clinton to make the conection.

just made america less safe" response.

no is the time yo keep up the pressure on them and make them
explain why they have disassembled america

3. I agree. I think that what Sen. Clinton said, needed to be said
And the facts support what she said. Look at where the Republicans forced Representative Conyers to hold his media bias forum. In some small room in a basement in the Capitol, I think I recall Randi Rhodes saying.

The Republicans didn't let him hold it in one of the regular meeting rooms; heck, they wouldn't even let him call it a "hearing." I think they had to refer to it as a "forum."

And look at how the Rethugs hold votes open, simply so they can twist arms and win votes.

Look at how they call votes on bills, before Congressmen and Congresswomen have even had a chance to read the bills, before voting on them.

What they are doing is simply unexcusable, and she was right to call them on it.

5. though i admire hillary's courage and directness
in saying it, after thinking about it today i'm not sure where a rich, white woman gets off going up to harlem and invoking those images.

bill could have probably pulled it off. there's something about hillary doing it that felt forced.

just my take on it.

23. She was invited and had been asked a question
Al Sharpton on Tweety last night said that she was invited to speak at his organization. Hillary was asked a question as to why the Democrats were not doing anything on the Hill, and that was her response to the question. Sharpton said her words were taken out of context. We were left with just her answer.

As Sharpton also said last night "The party (Republicans) who fought against a Martin Luther King holiday, are now telling us how to celebrate it. Amen

I agree
it was just a metaphor and it was an accurate metaphor. Plantations "happened."

Personally, I'm more comfortable with that metaphor than the Nazi allegations, which I think are a little over a top...yet.

And I love how her detractors get so caught up on her words instead of the point she was making and the Bush-bashing she was doing. Focus, people, focus!!

25. Because it was a slow news day
even according to Tweety Matthews - AND, the rest of the news is bad for the administration and repubs - so let's create a faux scandal. So transparant its ridiculous.

Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 07:04 PM by noiretblu
in response to a question about why democrats aren't doing more to help their most loyal constiuency. in spite of all the faux posturing and hot air coming from the party that actually values and promotes racism, there is nothing "racist" about her comment.

Even if she meant it, she can't pull it off. Would this be any controversey at all if Bill had said it? No way. Some have a way with words, some no have way.

18. I'm no Hillary fan ...not at all ... but I agree her remarks were dead on.
The White House is even styled like an antebellum plantation manor and the Refascists' view is one of a plantation economy, where Congress does Massa's bidding and drives the field slaves.

As far as Bush/Cheney being the absolute worst (P)residency in this county's history, it's not even a contest any more. Worse than Buchanan, Harding, McKinley, or Hoover ... worse than any of them and with far, far greater damage to this nation and the world.

20. that sounds right to me as well, one suggestion i would have for...
all future dem speeches, speech writers, and strategists; especially where truth is spoken to tyrannical republican power (and here's hoping they are to be many & frequent in the run-up to 06) is to limit the charged verbiage to words, phrases, and concepts that are not so easily taken off script for whole news cycles one after another
