Crude math shows more Democratic voters than Republicans (Georgia Primary)
Is this a good sign for November, or am I way off base here?

Governor - Dem Primary
Georgia 3101 of 3147 Precincts Reporting - 98.54%
Max Runoff Cands=2
Name Votes Pct
Taylor , Mark 240,322 51.54
Cox , Cathy 205,597 44.09
Bolton , Bill 10,239 2.20
McCarley , Mac 10,104 2.17
TOTAL VOTES --- 466,262

Governor - GOP Primary
Georgia 3101 of 3147 Precincts Reporting - 98.54%
Name Votes Pct
Perdue , Sonny (i) 364,931 88.39
McBerry , Ray 47,920 11.61
TOTAL VOTES --- 412,851

That's 53% to 47% Democrats. That might not sound like much, but for a state like Georgia it says a lot. Also, from what I've read here on DU, many Democrats switched to vote against Ralph Reed.

More Comparisons (More Republicans than Democrats voted in 02 than 06)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Governer 2006 Primary
Democrat % Turnout - 53.04% -- Republican % Turnout - 46.96%
Governer 2002 Primary
Democrat % Turnout - 45.95% -- Republican % Turnout - 54.05%

Lt. Governer 2006 Primary
Democrat % Turnout - 51.92% -- Republican % Turnout - 48.08%
Lt. Governer 2002 Primary
Democrat % Turnout - 47.89% -- Republican % Turnout - 52.11%

Senate 2002 Primary
Democrat % Turnout - 48.05% -- Republican % Turnout - 51.95%

Good sign or not?

1. I did that quick math last night too! I'm not sure we can deduce much
though. I really still believe turnout is the determining factor.

I appears to me that there have been a lot of Dems move to Ga which has evened out the difference in the # of Dems & Pubs, but most of those who relocated here live in or near one of the few large cities. Rural Ga. is still VERY RED!

2. Depends on how those Democrats vote in November
There are a lot of conservative Democrats in the south. The have been registered Democrats all fo their lives, but have been voting more and more for Republicans in recent years. Take a look at the Florida panhandle for example. Almost every county has a Democratic majority, yet they are the reddest in the state.

3. We had a competative primary
and they didn't. Similary in 2002 they had a competative primary and we didn't. I think primary turnout isn't going to be a good indicator.
