PUSAN, South Korea (Reuters) - A U.S. aircraft carrier group arrived in South Korea on Tuesday amid heightened regional tension brought about by North Korea's test-launch of missiles two weeks ago.

The group led by the nuclear-powered carrier USS Enterprise, and including a guided missile cruiser, attack submarine and other ships, arrived for a previously planned port call at the southeastern city of Pusan, the U.S. Navy said in a statement.

"The Norfolk, Virginia-based carrier's deployment to the Western Pacific was planned months in advance and is not in response to any current or recent events," the statement said.

1. I don't understand - it's routine for US aircraft carriers to visit there
After all, we do have military bases there, and the 7th Fleet is based nearby in Japan. Aircraft carrier groups routinely make ports of call throughout the region.

2. (waiting for the fireworks)
Kim Jong Il has promised more missile launches. He's assured us there are more to come. Now I believe Japan is going through a thermonuclear meltdown over this.

The US is probably moving in to keep them from going ballistic. China is probably enjoying having the front-row seats to such an amusing spectacle. South Korea is probably wringing its hands, hoping everything turns out OK.

Meanwhile, Mr. Cutie Pie Kim is having the time of his life. He THRIVES on attention. This is the best thing that could happen, in his opinion. Having an armada...US ships...coming your way.....????OMG...the thrills...

...and I think China digs this....:smoke:
