Sen Reid responds to today's GOP reformapalooza ...

“The idea of Republicans reforming themselves is like asking John Gotti to clean up organized crime. I thought I’d seen the last of corruption when I helped clean up Las Vegas thirty years ago. But, while its not quite the mafia of Las Vegas in the 1970s, what is happening today in Washington is every bit as corrupt and the consequences for our country have been just as severe.

“Some problems have no legislative fix, and the Republican culture of corruption is one of them. Today’s announcements by House and Senate Republicans should be taken at face value – minor wrist slapping and good public relation stunts by the same people responsible for this mess. Democrats will lead the tough reforms, because we owe it to the American people to stand up for their interests over special interests. Are we really going to believe that Republicans will stop answering the calls from their friends on K Street? Are they really going to put seniors ahead of drug companies when it comes reforming Medicare? Are they really going to help families over oil companies when it comes to gas prices? The answer to these questions is no, and that’s why the American people trust Democrats to clean up Washington and put their interests first.”

3. Since it appears
the major reason these Republicans wanted to get into congress is to get graft it seems unlikely that they will really reform.

4. Ha! He says he doesn't believe them when they say they're reforming!

Harry survived taking down the mob in Vegas, including a bomb planted in his family's station wagon, so he's SO not afraid to take on the greedy Chickenhawks!

7. Consise and to the point.
He really said a lot in those 2 paragraphs. No ambiguity, either. Let's see the Republican corporate media twist these words or skirt the fundemental points in this statement. Sooner or later, the media will have no choice but to either weigh in with supporting the Dauphin-boy or siding with the American people in confronting the Republican Syndicate's power grab.

8. "minor wrist slapping...public relation stunts"....
great phrasing....and your sincerity shows through, too.

I like how he ends with three important questions. ( It leaves the American people with something to think about.)

That was a "10", Harry....Nice job!

9. Why can't he say these things on Sunday talk shows
Why are the Sunday talk shows always filled to the brim with GOP mouth pieces? This message must get out. This is not a pat on the back for Honest Al but it is in the same vein and is every bit as important...

13. Harry is absolutely right.
All I heard the Repubs talking about on the C-Span press conferences today was the giving of coffee mugs, lunches, and baby shit. No way did they talk about the bribes, trips, French toilets, Rolls Royces, etc.....

15. Don't forget to call Harry and demand he defeat Alito. Cleaning
up can start by keeping this unethical racist, sexist bigot off the court.

18. This part is great...
"that we really going to believe that Republicans will stop answering the calls from their friends on K Street? Are they really going to put seniors ahead of drug companies when it comes reforming Medicare? Are they really going to help families over oil companies when it comes to gas prices? The answer to these questions is no, and that’s why the American people trust Democrats to clean up Washington and put their interests first.”

Let Americans correctly tie their economic suffering directly to Republican greed, and the influence of corporate interests over concern for the average citizen. Maybe the next time somebody goes into shock when they are presented with the bill for their grannie's meds, they will know who to blame. When the bill for keeping the house at 62 degrees is still twice is was to keep the same house at 70 last year, they will know which party is in bed with big oil.

I know the issues of gay marriage and abortion have cost us votes, but aside from the truly fanatical right-wing religious nuts, many people are going to push those issues to the end of the line whn their very lives are being threatened. Lack of adequate heat in cold weather, and medicine, are things which WILL cause some to die, and that is going to be a bigger concern than gay rights, at least in my opinion.

I'm thrilled with Gore's speech yesterday, and with Hillary's, and now with Reid stepping up to the plate. I only wish more and more would join in the chorus. Bless Conyers for being at the front of the battle all along.

The dems (whom YOU lead) have knows about this Abramoff shit and a bunch of other stuff for YEARS..and yet you always wait to see what THEY will say, and then our guys either say ..

"Us too...doubled with sugar on toP..or "No way Jose"

WE NEED TO BE OUT THERE.... STEALING THEIR THUNDER..

THE MEDIA THAT WE HAVE (SHITTY) WILL RUN WITH THIS AS A REPUBLICAN PLAN TO "CLEAN THEIR OWN HOUSE" AND WILL BE PROMOTING THEM FOR SAINTHOOD..

the dems will just be "an afterthought"..wannabees..

WHILE EVENYONE ELSE WAS HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, THE DEMS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MEETING AND DISCUSSING A COGENT, UNIFIED POSITION ON ALL THE IMPORTANT THINGS..

and they should have returned early and asked for televised town hall meetings..

the DC press was standing around with their thumbs up their noses for a lot of the "vacation time" and would have happily covered them..
