I wrote a book -
It is called - "On a Wing and a Prayer" - memories of a fighter pilot and a nurse in WWII.

Now I am an accountant, but I felt so strongly about the sacrifices (of our parents) in WWII I had to write that book. No choice. Took me five years.

I think there is a lesson for us.

I don't know that we learned it, but god damn, how did we miss it??

Mr "W" - he knows just the amount equal to his father's misadventure.

I was no fighter pilot then. But I DO KNOW - his father was no hero. How dare he be the last person out on a mission - how dare he and use the title "fighter pilot" - I know many "fighter pilots"- best of the best - sure not from the TANG.

What an abuse of language.

Joe

1. that's the problem; there is no inner core
Edited on Mon Jul-17-06 06:49 PM by MissWaverly
When I was a kid, my mother used to buy these hollow Easter chocolate bunnies, the outside was
all there was, once you starting eating, the inside was just air, it looked impressive but
it was just a little chocolate surrounding a big empty space. That's what I think of both
of them. I remember George, Sr. during Katrina saying the people on the rooftops didn't complain, how would he know, was he up there with them? Now with all the problems in Lebanon,
all Bush could talk about was a pig roast, this is another Pet Goat moment. I am sorry, if
you want to be an elitist snob, be a corporate ceo but a government official is the servant
of the people, he should be on board in a crisis just like a soldier. Congratulations on
writing the book, God knows we need role models for our young people today.

7. What it means is that we have no real leaders
Your parents were there, they did their duty, risked their lives, Bush is all show, he poses
for the camera then his work is done, did you ever see a president with more vacations, more
travel or more fun on his plate, it's all play and no work and the country is going to
hell in a handbasket.

9. Mom and Dad were there and that is a fact.
Many of our mothers and fathers were, dear.

I think old "w"'s father was a coward - and the guys son was worse than a coward.

I am old now dear, but if our country was at risk, I'd go, even today.

You know - it is the difference between ol "W" and the rest of us.

It really is - and so sad to say.

We were a very Catholic family. 2nd Generation. You had a choice - If you didn't inherit the money - you could be a priest or a soldier.

That was it.

So, we had a lot of priests and soldiers in my family.

I don't think I said it before, but uncle John is a Saint now - really.

The rest of my family were army officers.

And my kid is a pawn in the current game in fucking Iraq.

Maybe were fucked,

But I will not go down without a fight.

Joe

10. thanks Joe, my grandfather came from County Mayo, Ireland
his parents and most of his siblings died on the banks of Steubenville, Ohio. Both my parents
worked as hard as they could for a decent life here. I never saw where either of them had a soft life either. Oh, Joe, I wish we coud just turn all this around. The American people
I know do not sit around thinking of ways to cheat the Indians like Jack Abramoff and so
many in power now.

14. I think too many of us were born on the banks of the Allegheny
or Ohio rivers.

Our parents worked so hard for us - so where the fuck are we ??

I was born in the Ohio river valley. I know where Steubenville is,God help me.

We are all the same now - all of us.

Even if we moved to the San Fernando Valley.

We KNOW our roots.

Joe

You know Miss Waverly - If they cheated they will get their asses kicked.
From Ohio State to Penn State to USC - they will get their asses kicked.

And I went to U of R -

God bless the Big Ten and the Pac Ten!!!!

I think of my Dad, what an honest man he was, he lost his job because he would not change
his party registration as a Democrat, he would never be able to figure out these guys who
shave the truth into what can fit into a commercial.

8. Joe, let me explain
Narcissus was a greek myth about a guy that loved only himself, he was the only one that mattered. That's what we are saying, you worked your job, did your bit to help the country,
but George has always looked for the easy way and doesn't do the job we need of a leader.
He's let us down, Joe, despite all those fancy clothes, and the fancy cars, he's a goldbrick.

Did you hear about the GOP congressman who went over to Iraq and is calling from there saying
we should withdraw at least some troops. They should all be forced to go over there and see what it's like. Here's hoping that there will be a call for a drawdown.

26. Really??
They won't send their kids, though.

You have to believe in the country first. I don't think they do.

I guess it is a matter of belief.

Oh, damn - we are sending offensive units, like my kids group - I don't think, never did - that they were going back to Iraq to hold anything.

He didn't either.

Thank you for your kindness,

Joe

27. Here, Joe, I saw this at lunch time, it's like it's been erased
Gutknecht gives grim assessment
War supporter says conditions in Iraq are worse than he expected
Published July 19, 2006 01:31 am - Congressman Gil Gutknecht found the situation in Iraq more bleak than he anticipated during a weekend visit to the war zone, and said a partial withdrawal of some American troops might be wise.

Gutknecht, a strong supporter of the war since it began in March of 2003, told reporters in a telephone conference call Tuesday that American forces appear to have no operational control of much of Baghdad.
“The condition there is worse than I expected,” he said. “... I have to be perfectly candid: Baghdad is a serious problem.”
The 1st District Republican said he was deeply impressed by the professionalism of American soldiers and gained hope from the more stabile situation in the Kurdish-dominated northern region of Iraq.
But he said the next six weeks could be critical in determining whether stability can eventually come to the rest of the country, and he believes removing some American troops is necessary to send the Iraqi government a message that it can’t rely so heavily on the American military much longer.
