If US freepers and Xian fundies heard that the UK PM was bisexual
as is alleged in at least one British Sunday newspaper today, how would that affect the "special relationship"? What would change? (It is alleged that JP has boasted of holding a dossier of who has slept with whom in British politics, and that it includes TB and GB in man-on-man action.)

11. Links here -
The Atticus column in the Sunday Times, written by Roland White
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2088-2272016.html

White refers to a "laughable allegation" but you can ignore the word "laughable" - it is there to cover his back.

and see also comments by political hacks on the Guido Fawkes' blog

under the entry "Quote of the Week".

16. No, I think "laughable" covers it
"2 men share hotel room shock!" Shame you didn't admit that's what it was about in the first place.

13. I don't think that the Pope - particularly this Pope - would overlook it
and Cherie Blair is a practising Roman Catholic, while her husband is - well, I am not sure.

18. Pope won't say anything, most likely...
Blair converted to Catholicism to marry his wife.

Unless Blair came out (no pun intended) and supported equal rights for gays, or approved of some sort of same sex marriage, he won't be condemned by the Pope. I don't recall the current (or past couple, for that matter) ever specifically condemning a person for their sexual orientation. They might have condemned homosexuality in general, just not anyone specifically.

20. Tony Blair
Edited on Sun Jul-16-06 10:58 AM by tenshi816
is not a Catholic, he's Church of England. That's why there was controversy a couple of years back when he took communion during a Catholic mass - he wasn't supposed to.

Edited to add that, according to today's UK Telegraph, Blair is "close to converting": http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/10/15/ncath15.xml

15. See above, and
as to why now: it is in the context of John Prescott and everything that we have learned since the end of April (shagging with the office door open, serial groping, etc etc).
