I work for a Right Wing Think Tank
and my job is to monitor "lefty" sites to guage the level of the oppostion. And I'll be happy to report to my superiors (Bush Sr., Kissinger, et al.) that we have nothing to worry about. The "lefties" are all over the place. They, as individuals, are loaded down with the assault we've made on everything decent. But the best news of all is, they are not focusing on the real biggie. Voting. As long as we bring up flag burnings and gay marriage bans, they will devote time and effort to these non-issues, just as planned.

Because we know voting is everything, and lefties don't. Stealing elections secures our dominance.

Oh, and one more interesting fact. The lefties spend gobs of time ridiculing our leaders. They make up cute insulting names for Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Rush, Hannity, O'reilly etc. This is great for us. We only need to worry when the ridicule ends and it becomes all out hostility without mirth. That's when the "real left" emerges.

Until then, let's drink to our success.

15. OP is pointing out how much energy we waste swatting shadows
How easy it is for us to be caught up in the sideshows we miss the main event. How we continue to let the right define us and frame the discussion/debate.

I'll put it another way:

Focus, people. We have to defend the vote before we fix anything else that is broken.

3. I agree.
voting is about all of it, it actually transcends party lines. Every issue that I support, animal rights, environmentalism, human rights, reproductive choice, world peace, etc, comes down to voting.

You do know they're filing lawsuits against the voting machine companies, right? Here's a clue for you Mr. RW think tanker, Progressives can multitask.

By all means, have a drink. In fact, drink the whole bottle, it won't make your kind any less worthless. ;)

27. I'm still waiting for Bill Clinton to say what he believes to corpmedia.
Funny how NONE of them thought it was important to report Clinton's comments about RFK's article changing his mind about who won in 2004.

And funny how Clinton has decided not to repeat his remarks in a more public forum being covered, like in Aspen.

31. Your assessment is narrow and shortsighted.
I won't waste my time or yours arguing the dangers of ignoring such smokescreen issues as flag burning and same-sex marriage (just ask John Kerry how well that worked with the swiftboaters); ignoring cancer doesn't make it go away, either.

I will, however, point out the very real value of ridiculing one's opponents, courtesy of Mel Brooks:

"Rhetoric does not get you anywhere, because Hitler and Mussolini are just as good at rhetoric. But if you can bring these people down with comedy, they stand no chance."

It's called "propaganda," whether it's making up "cute insulting names" on a message board, or lensing a film like "The Great Dictator" -- or "Fahrenheit 911," for that matter, which would not have been one fraction as effective without the liberal use of "ridiculous" humor.

I think it's sad you put so little value on the human need to congregate and commiserate. Have you ever heard of "blowing off steam"?

Finally, you appear to underestimate the importance anyone puts on voting reform. Those who don't get it yet need education and impetus to action, not snide dismissals.

Some do far more behind the scenes than any of us can imagine. That said, we're not all Andy Stephenson, you know.

of the French right before the revolution. Somehow I think that they used "ridiculous humor" for many years. Then finally, they'd had it and got fucking angry. I could be wrong here, but I can't wait for the serious fucking anger.

45. Psssst...don't tell the folks at the think tank, but....
Lefties are much better at multi-tasking than they are. We can bitch about an astonishing array of things and still manage to work on the important issues. Yes, including voting.

:)

I find this amusing every time it comes up, no matter which issue it is. Personally, I do a great deal of on-the-ground work regarding election integrity but rarely speak about it here. I use DU to bitch and moan about everything under the sun these evil criminal bastards are doing, including "distraction" issues. Doesn't mean I'm not up to my elbow grease on core issues.

Cheers!
