Buckle Up - Back seat passengers may soon have to buckle up too
Pending legislation in General Assembly would require everyone in a vehicle to use seat belts

A state bill requiring adults to wear seat belts when riding in a vehicle’s back seat could get on the books soon. It is already getting on some local residents’ nerves.

The bill is the government’s attempt to further intrude into citizens’ right to live how they see fit, said Corey Mills, of Trenton.

“It’s a free country,” Mills said. “You can go without your seat belt if you want to.”

2. I make everyone buckle up too
as long as I'm responsible for them, they do as I say and if they don't, well, they don't ride with me

7. Absolutely.
When I worked in a hospital, one of my patients had a closed head injury that did major damage to his brain. He was one of four drunks in the car, wasn't buckled in, and his head collided with the head of the guy in front of him during the crash. The guy in front of him was killed in the accident, and my patient had a long, long road ahead of him trying to regain half the life he had before the accident.

4. Well, that is a good policy - but should it be law?
That is the question.

And if anyone wants to REALLLY stretch this - blacks are pulled over more than whites and their cars searched more often. So now cops will have another reason to add to the arsenal (I could not tell if the folks had belts on since they were lap belts, so I pulled you over).

6. Very few cars have just lap belts. This hasn't been a problem in any
state with buckle-up laws that I know of. In NC, they can pull you over on that basis with the law being front-seat only seatbelts required to be buckled. Has it been a problem?

5. Here in CA EVERYONE
must be buckled up, it's been that way for years and years. I think it's a good idea.
