My feelings are sooo hurt.
Here's the letter:
No Threat Too Minor
Regarding "Suspects Were Small Fry" (Letters, July 1):
The writer pokes fun at the arrests in Miami of the terror wannabes and a attacks the anti-terror programs at the National Security Agency and our monitoring of financial records of suspected terror suspects. In the writer's lame attempt at humor, he ignores one thing: the truth. These programs work.
While on the surface the suspects in Miami may, indeed, seem like small potatoes, I'm sure the same thing would have been said about Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols the month before they killed 168 people in Oklahoma City. Neither could be considered the sharpest knife in the drawer, but they still managed to pull off what at the time was the worst terror attack on U.S. soil.
I'd also like to remind him that we haven't had an attack on our soil since 9/11. All dumb luck, I guess, huh, Mr Chapman?

Here's what sparked his ire.(Printed July 1)
Regarding "Terror Suspects Indicted" (front page, June 24):
Congratulations to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and the FBI.
It took nearly five years, which included passage of the Patriot Act; illegal domestic spying and electronic eavesdropping by the NSA; rummaging through bank, credit card and other financial transactions; and monitoring of peace activists.
Not to mention torture and interrogation of thousands of suspected "terrorists" in Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib and countless other undisclosed locations around the world.
It appears that Dick Tracy, under the supervision of Barney Fife, Inspector Clouseau and Robert Mueller, has managed to infiltrate and indict "The Insane Clown Posse" in Miami.
With this crew on the job, we can expect to win the "war on terror" in January 2009 - the day this crew is drummed out of office.
