After reading the article in today's Washington Post (sorry, no link) about the extent of the growth of our spying since 2000 one question lingers.
It was hinted and then said that most of our intelligence activities in the war on terror are done in association with, and in fact primarily by and through, foreign intelligence services and persons. By payment and agreement we've got our newfound ability to snatch people off the streets and secrete them away to prisions on foreign soil where we do what we dam well please with them.
While I shudder at the knowledge it demands the question - what power to act in our country did we give others in order for us to get the power to act in theirs?
For instance, lets say we have a clandestine agreement with the exSoviet republics that allows us to snatch people we want off their streets and in return if they have a few descenters walking around in Milwaukee they want to lay their hands on, well, no prolem with that either.
