Three Senators (so far) say they will support the Lieberman Indie bid
Got this off of Daily Kos.

So far these three say they would support Joe if he loses the primary:
Ben Nelson of Neb.
Mark Pryor of Ark.
Ken Salazar of Co.

But these top democrats have said they will support the winner of the primary:
Hillary Clinton
Howard Dean
Russ Feingold
Al Gore
John Kerry
Bob Menendez
Barack Obama
Tom Vilsack

1. I am really getting tired of the democratic party
that this should be an issue is a disgrace

The democrats should support the winner of the primary PERIOD, otherwise why be part of the party

I noticed Schumer isn't in your list. He is probably standing on the sidelines seeing which way the wind is blowing

No wonder the last six years have been awful, we don't have a party that can stand together on ANYTHING, especially supporting a Democratic nominee winner

That it even took THIS long for some to come out saying they would support the winner of the primary shows how screwed up we are

There is a reason why we have been losing elections, and this demonstrates more than anything

2. I think you have to factor in a few things
I mean until recently Lamont looked like he didn't have that much of a chance - I'm glad he's done so well; but I can understand congress people saying blandly they aren't interested in offending Liebermann when they think he will be coming back. Not the bravest strategy, I'll admit.

4. Listen, if liberman wins the primary, he should be supported by
the democrats. If lamont wins, he should be supported. It is as simple as that

You would NEVER see the republicans doing this kind of shit

if lieberman loses and runs as an independent, they aren't offending liebermann by supporting the winner of the primary, LIEBERMANN IS OFFENDING THEM!!!

9. You're correct! But Lieberman is setting supporters up
and the fool doesn't give a shit!

Karl Rove is going to be pinning flip-flop labels all over any supporter of Lieberman pre-primary then Lamont post-primary. He's also going to hit post-primary Lieberman supporters with 'confused' labels..."Salazar/Pryor/Nelson just can't seem to make up his mind which party he supports. Do you want really want him as your Senator in Congress?"

It's a trap and Lieberman is directly responsible for it. :banghead:

11. Republicans don't even care if someone is indicted or convicted or jailed
they will support ANY Repuke who The Great Diebold has decreed to be victorious.

13. The Republicans don't do this kind of shit because they don't have Joe to
deal with. Why does he do this to his own party? He shouldn't be threatening to run as an independent. If he loses, he loses, and he should STFU. Or let Leiberman do us all a favor and run in the Republican primary.

15. Lieberman is attempting to extort votes from Democrats. Why
should he be allowed to get away with this?

8. Looks to me like Karl and Snarl have tried to craft another win-win
It looks to me like Karl and the Snarl have tried to craft another win-win for themselves.

If Lieberman wins the primary and, then, of course, the general election, they have a Democratic senator who votes Republican and tries to make his fellow Democrats look bad at every opportunity. Win.

If Lieberman loses the primary and runs as an independent, and the Dem/Progressive vote is split and the Repub wins, they have a Red Senator from a heretofore blue state. Win.

The only way the Dems can really *win* this one is to elect Lamont to the Senate. It will take a lot of work, a huge turnout, and very, very careful monitoring of the voting and the counting.

My fingers are so crossed ...

12. I'd say that Ben may have a dog in this fight
If we get Lieberman out, then Ben's antics will be more closely scrutinized. Nelson has been able to get away with a lot of his bush backing and statements that undermine the Democratic agenda because Lieberman has been a bit more outragious. Look out Benny boy, you may be next. :)

14. He should just run for the Knesset and get it over with.
Then he could run in the Likkud party and his supporters would be happy to have him.

His multiple appearances of Fox News to excoriate democrats, his jumping on the 'lynch Clinton' bandwagon first, his standing up FIRST to oppose changing Iraq policy in the congressional debates and caucusing with the republicans, his staunch support of Bush and the neo-cons make him decidedly not a democrat by any stretch.

I have no use for the man. He needs to just switch parties become an official RW neo-con republican.

He is more dangerous IN our party than out. He is a useful tool for the neo-cons.

I can't navigate Daily Kos or I'd try to find it myself.

I'll be after Salazar if I know where it came from.

Edited on Fri Jul-07-06 05:39 PM by depakid
Frankly, I think the party would be much better off if they all lost- even if they were replaced by Republicans. Ben Nelson in particular. Good riddance and crocodile tears if he loses this Novemeber.
