Concrete Step re Gore Speech: How can I distribute free DVDs?
I think that the posters who are complaining about the MSM ignoring the Gore speech may be right.

But if you look at how dramatic social change has happened in other countries in the last 25 years when their media have ignored important voices, invariably independent media -- even hand to hand media -- have been the first step.

Nelson Mandela's speech passed around on cassettes; liberal Russians' writings passed around as Samizdat; even evil examples like Ayatollah Khomeini's speeches passed around on tapes.

I would be willing to spend a couple of hundred bucks to make DVDs to send to all my friends and to pass around my bluest of blue Congressional Districts.

Any technophiles here want to start a research or activism thread to tell us how to get the word out through hand to hand media?

1. I think that's a good idea
only issue with DVD's is you have to be able to play them. Over here, most under 40 have one but a lot still don't.

I don't know how long the footage of Gore is, I believe a lot of DUers have the thing TIVO'd so they could share it.

Using a buring program such as nero I think you can have a copy in a couple of minutes.
I just paid 1 euro / DVD.

So with a couple 100 bucks you'd get somewhere already.

The transcript should be pdf-d for easy electronic transfer & reperinting too.

I can do that if need be.

cheers!

An even more portable alternative, though lacking the visuals of course, might be:

Download an MP3 of the speech (I've tried this unsuccessfully a couple times today) and convert it to a wave file (free and very effective software for conversion available at http://www.mthreedev.com). The wave can then be opened in any wave editor (can't think of any free ones offhand, but there are some out there). Salient points of the speech can be snipped out, converted back to MP3 (free software here: http://my.execpc.com/~sfritz/rc-mp3), and to reduce file size even further, the MP3s can be zipped. I'm going to try this once I can grab the audio of the speech, and start sending it around.

:argh:

Edited to fix links!

5. I'll have a copy at my site shortly.
http://www.republicansareidiots.com/audio will have a directory listing that should get you a copy.

3. If you get it in Quicktime format
You would need full video size: 720 x 540.

Then you could drag the QT file directly into Roxio's toast program and burn them pretty quickly.
