He arrived here unannounced, was illegally "adopted", for decades has held a job that an American WOULD do, he lives quite well considering that his "parents" were not that wealthy, and hs "job" is not a highly paid profession.. He cavorts with american wimminfolk, and leads them on. he hangs out in shady places and damages a lot of stuff..he must be on drugs too, seems almost psychotic and paranoid..with a terrible fear of kryptonite

our UK 'phone booths have not had directories in them for some years. I might be wrong. I'll have a looksee next time I drive past one !

even before cell phones. Now it is hard to even find a phone "booth." There are little phone stands out on the street with no protection from the elements.

In the years just before booths were discontinued, some of them had grown quite nasty, with folks using them for reasons other than telephoning (that is what it was like in cities with larger populations).

Phone books were discontinued because people would tear out the pages that had the info they needed, especially when they did not have a pen or pencil. That made the books basically useless for other users.

Also, phone companies could make some extra bucks when folks had to call information to get a number.

I remember seeing them around when I was child in the late forties and into the fifties - not quite sure when they disappeared from use. I guess they originally had a "coffee grinder" telephone line installed on a hard line through to the local Police Station. In those days out Police Staions all still had the Blue Lamp outside of the building as well !

Given that the first series was made in 1962 the public here would all have remembered those boxes and so they had a meaning. I assume the significance was that as the "Box" was a familiar site the Tardis didn't look out of place wherever it turned up.

How can people say that he's not a violent criminal when the evidence is everywhere? The city used to be peaceful and intact. Now that he's here, the place is a wreck three times per week.
