So Fox wants the govt. to create an "Office of Censorship" My God!
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 06:13 PM by Ishoutandscream2
This has really put me over the edge. I know that this administration has been spitting on the constitution and systematically taking away our rights. But this news today really brings me back to the summer of 1991 and a graduate level course I was taking.

I was a teacher then, and I took advantage of my time off from work in summer to take a graduate course simply titled "Hitler." It was being taught by a large man who was born and raised in Tennessee. He received his doctorate in European studies at Tulane, and had been working at the university where I was taking this course for around 20 years. Oh, and I have to mention that he was also Jewish.

It was a fascinating 5 weeks. Dr. Rudoff was outstanding. We read the various books assigned to us, and we were also given a list of books to independently read and report on. But the classroom discussions - God, they were riveting! There were about 15 of us in the class, and it seemed we touched on so many issues surrounding the affects of fascism on nations around the world (not just Germany).

I'll never forget the last day of the course. After we had finished our finals, Dr. Rudoff had final words for us. Yes, we had learned the general history of it all. But the most important thing, he stated, was to teach our children to think critically and question injustice. Dr. Rudoff said something to the effect, "Don't ever think it couldn't happen here. Hitler rose in a highly educated nation. It can happen here, and you need to be there to combat it if it rears its head here in our country." It was so moving - you could hear a pin drop. It was almost as if we were all having some sort of religious experience.

Dr. Rudoff has passed on. I'm thinking he passed before the Bush junta took power. After this little tidbit of news today, I wondered what Dr. Rudoff would say. I know that he would be pissed, and frightened.

This is the final straw, people. This is fascism at its finest. I really didn't think Dr. Rudoff's last words to us would ring true. He was a very wise man, indeed.

6. It is full transparency on the agenda to destroy our democracy!
Go ahead some of you and tsk this one away as a non-issue, but it is a BIG one. They are 'throwing out' this idea (just like TIA and every other big brother notion) to test the waters and see how we will react. How will we react? Amusement, outrage, dismissal, just like every other violation of the Constitution over the last 6 years. We will make it a non-issue to cope and survive mental trauma - like ALL the others. They WILL make an Office of Censorship AND operate it right in front of everyone, during this time of 'war'. :eyes:

Wait and see, it's majik - not in the news anymore, not that important. 24/7 news keeps people deceived.

8. I took a similar course in Jan 2002...
The title was: "A Psychohistory of the Holocaust" and is was taught by Aaron Haas, a psychologist that wrote books on the long term psychological effect of the holocaust on survivors and their children (he was a child of survivors). The course spent a significant amount of time examining the steps taken, and the psychology supporting each step, to start dehumanize the Jews and make people believe they were the cause of everything that was wrong in Germany. This process built on fear and hatred. The "jew" of the conservative is liberals and that scares me.

He brought together a lot of research on group psychology and how human beings are predisposed to think in terms of "us and them." This predisposition helps the process along. Hatred and fear are the tools of this approach. Identify the group that is to be feared and hated. Find "reasons" to attack and destroy that group. Attack and destroy the group and be hailed as someone that did what was needed to solce the problem.

I remember talking to the professor after class one day and we discussed the adminstration's reaction to 9/11. He agreed with me that he was worried and that the tactics of the Bush administration "felt" like carbon copies of the Nazi's approach to controlling Germany.

11. Yes, it was almost like a psychology course
Rudoff said he was uncomfortable pontificating on what he called "historical psychology." But damn, the course was a brilliant psychological study of Hitler and the German people. Of course, being Jewish, Dr. Rudoff was so passionate teaching this course. He loved our group dynamic, and stated he wished the course would have been longer. I have to admit, I worked my ass off and received a "B," but I got so much out of it.

10. If a course entitled "Hitler" were to be offered today,
no matter what the context, it would be shut down by Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and their cohorts screaming and totally mischaracterizing it. The entire Republican noise machine would pick up on it and the college would be inundated with hate mail and demands that it be shut down and Dr. Rudoff fired.

Sounds like a wonderful learning experience. Dr. Rudoff was fortunate to have taught in a more enlightened era, even though it wasn't all that long ago.

12. He was a good man. I'm almost glad he's gone.
He would be so sick of the things that have been happening here the previous six years. You're right, I believe he would probably be one of those "elitist, subversive" professors labeled by the O'Reilly's of the world. Sickening!
