The rental next door is caught in a downward death spiral easy credit rant
We live next to a duplex rental property that is caught up in a death spiral. A woman bought the place a couple of years ago for income property, she has turned into a classic slumlord, never repairing, cuts the grass about every six weeks or so, her tenants are slipping in quality as well.
She has started renting to kids, they stay there a few months then skee daddle out probably owing several months back rent. All the time tearing the place up, parking junk cars in the yard, piling trash up by the door.
The latest bunch, we pointed out the property line and these idiots promptly dug a hole in our yard trying to level out a kids pool, when we called the owner to complain we get the message that that number is no longer in service.
Someone gave her credit without doing a proper background, she's already attempted to sell, no luck, we took one of the flyers out of curiosity, she wanted to damn much for the place to move.
These kids, while they aren't the worst, they're not who I'd like living next to me, I'm too damn old to be fighting with my neighbors, my Constitution wants a rest, the best thing I can see happening is forclosure, at least that way someone will fix the place up to sell it.
The way it sits now is dragging our property and all of our immediate neighbors down with it.

3. Our insurance is in good shape
We just got our policy review, if we ever come into any money we're going to buy the place tear it down and put up a gazebo.

2. I feel your pain, unfortunately I see this as a growing trend.
I have trouble on both sides of me. One is rented, the other just sold after being empty for three years.

I am too old and too poor to move away from these problems. America ain't what it used to be.

He doesn't get the concept of property lines either - so I extended the fence and planted more prickly roses as a reminder.

6. What city are you in?
If you are in the right city and right neighborhood, you could probably sell both units to a developer and make a nice profit.

7. Not here
This is small town America, houses ten years ago didn't stay on the market any time at all, now, I see houses sitting waiting for a buyer.
One more thing there is a large apartment complex due to open by fall, if not sooner, the landlords here are freaking out, there already is a glut that they can't rent, now there is a brand new complex that they will have to compete with.
This is a great place for retirees, but, not for people who need to work, we're too far away from well paying employment.
