Bloomberg: Democrats Widen Lead Over Republicans in Battle for Congress
Democrats Widen Lead Over Republicans in Battle for Congress
June 30 (Bloomberg) -- Voters increasingly see Democrats as the party best able to handle the top problems confronting the U.S., as Republicans struggle to hold their congressional majorities in midterm elections little more than four months away.

Registered voters favor Democrats over Republicans in contests in their congressional districts by 49 percent to 35 percent, a Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll finds. Fifty-four percent want to see Democrats control Congress, while 34 percent prefer that Republicans stay in power. In April, Democrats led Republicans 51 percent to 38 percent on the issue.

Democrats have opened up a 16-point lead on the question of which party is best equipped to tackle the nation's most urgent challenges. Democrats, who have long enjoyed a decided edge on issues such as health care and the economy, now find themselves preferred on the Iraq war, ethics and immigration -- issues where Republicans had been ahead, or where the public was more divided.

The turnaround suggests Republicans ``are headed for very difficult fall elections,'' said Stuart Rothenberg, editor of the nonpartisan Rothenberg Political Report. ``The House of Representatives is in play, and the Democrats have a real chance'' to sweep back to power.

3. What's the margin of error to beat diebold?
Everyone of us has to mark the calendar - 7 November. No excuses. And if you aren't registered, get hot.

24. Now is the time to make people believe
in the cause and remind them that the fight isn't over until after the votes are counted in Nov. Keep registering people and working the neighborhoods to be sure we overcome the bully (and I do mean bully) pulpit advantage of incumbency. We can celebrate after we've done the job.

8. This can all be overturned w/a well timed terror scare and e-voting.
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 11:17 AM by cyberpj
They just say people didn't want to make a change during terror/war

I don't like it either but it's true.

And oh so sad that such a large chunk of the public falls for it.

It is completely rigged and broken, there can never be a fair election in the USA! The courts are lined with croonies and so is the whole Government. Nothing short of a revolution will give America Democracy again!

14. this is still a long way off, the best chance we have is if people vote
in mass

Women and Labor are the best chance for victory, because they have been the ones screwed over the most by this administration

18. We have a chance in fair elections
The big question is: do we have a chance that there will be fair elections?

"Those cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything"--Stalin

(Although it could just as easily have been said by Katherine Harris or J. Kenneth Blackwell)

19. I used to be a dis-interested moderate. Now I am a FLAMING LIBERAL!!
I'm like many voters. When Bush was first elected, I thought he'd be like Dan Quayle - another dumb legacy republican who's biggest concern was getting a good tee time. It would be a boring 4 years of photo ops on various golf courses of the chimp smiling not having a care in the world.

Never in a million years did I think we'd end up with a nutcase who has conversations with god and thinks the USA should be a theocracy. Andf then we find he's filled his administration with crooks, cronies and psychopaths. I now see the republicans for what they are - dangerous people who need to be FAR AWAY from making laws and spending tax dollars.

20. I say this means nothing
People may want the Democrats to take over the Congress, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they will vote Democratic in their district. A lot of people think that Republicans are bad except for their senator or representative. It's all the rest that are bad. You need to look at all the individual races to see which way things will go.

22. unfortunately thats all to true
hate to post this but its grim reality, brace yourselves:

Congress approval rating 32% (a little less than Bush but a lot more than Cheney)

Congress reelection rate 98%

I think that says it all, but still we have to do what we can to make the change bad (very bad) as it is. Otherwise they already won

21. Thanks for sharing the great news, kpete!
I've been following the Senate races closely, and hope we will be able to pick up the 6 seats we need to regain a majority. We've got 4 now and good chances to pick up at least 2 more if all the latest poll pridictions are correct.

I believe we have an even better chance of getting control of the House, but I've not yet been watching those races because the number of them makes it harder stay abreast of them, and also because I'm lazy. I'm sure we'll start seeing more about where we stand in picking up the House, as we get closer to November.

Thanks again, you rock! :headbang:

23. Please, please, please, please, please, please, please
stay that way until Novemeber! An even larger lead would be nice so they won't have the ability to steal it and say people voted for "Morality" reasons.

I feel as if people are finally waking up from their deep slumber. Olease let it be true. I'm so sick of this warmongering administration.

25. The conservative movement is dying, soon they will be dinosaurs.

They ran out of toes long ago from shooting themselves in the foot so many times. Between all the scandals they have pulled and Smirky's daily acts of stupidity most people are now ashamed to admit they are registered rethuglicans.

And I won't even go into what a prime example Limbaugh their head cheerleader is.
Rush; WTF were you thinking? You are ludicrous.

28. Sure it all sounds good, BUT...
The repukes have revamped ALL the voting districts in their favor.....it will be hard for them to lose in the up- coming elections.......and for years to come.....we took our power for granted....There is a solution, but we would all end up in jail for premeditated capital crimes.
