Poll question: July 4th Rememberance...
I'm going to have a moment of silence at High Noon Central Time to
remember those who have been important to the struggle for America
for me personally, but, who are no longer with us.

May their memory march on!

Who's with me?

(If there is someone special you'd like remembered, please
reply to this thread with their name.)

1. Support the "Troops" who have fought hatred, racism, bigotry, xenophobia,
war-mongering, destruction, and imperialism through the years, taking it to the streets and bringing Progressive change, and who gave their time (and some their lives) for such a noble cause.

Now THAT is a cause for celebration this July 4th.

4. Those who have fallen should be honored but do remember
what the 4th of July represents in the US.
Formal remembrance for fallen troops is on Memorial Day, that does not mean that they should not be honored all days but I don't want to distract what the 4th of July represents.
It is the day set aside to celebrate our independence from a then oppressive regime, the British Empire. We need to remember that is what the 4th means and vow to stop our current government from oppressing other nations and people as we are with Iraq.

5. Yes, but, there have been many since then who've worked to make America
what it is... I'm not asking for yet another day of memorial.

Only a moment to remember those who weren't necessarily soldiers,
but, in who's hearts democracy and freedom has spread.

The whole rest of the day is for the living to celebrate what America
is.

6. ... and from oppressing us to.
As Howard Zinn said, a government that is ruthless in what it does to other people is ruthless in what it does to its own people.

13. Yeah, I was reading through the D.o.I. the other day...
It could have been written yesterday as far as I'm concerned.

7. Well, I'll start off...
I'm going to remember that guy who kept my spirits up in
the darkest days (so far) of the current Administration by
posting a selection of editorial cartoons here on DU.

I still miss him.
