French report claims terrorist leader stayed in Dubai hospital

Anthony Sampson
Thursday November 1, 2001
The Guardian

Two months before September 11 Osama bin Laden flew to Dubai for 10 days for treatment at the American hospital, where he was visited by the local CIA agent, according to the French newspaper Le Figaro.

The disclosures are known to come from French intelligence which is keen to reveal the ambiguous role of the CIA, and to restrain Washington from extending the war to Iraq and elsewhere.

Bin Laden is reported to have arrived in Dubai on July 4 from Quetta in Pakistan with his own personal doctor, nurse and four bodyguards, to be treated in the urology department. While there he was visited by several members of his family and Saudi personalities, and the CIA.

The CIA chief was seen in the lift, on his way to see Bin Laden, and later, it is alleged, boasted to friends about his contact. He was recalled to Washington soon afterwards.

1. someone try and convince me that bin Laden is NOT a CIA puppet
really, because it really seems like an iron-clad claim, to me.

2. It is a fact that bin Laden had a relationship to the CIA for years
Why can't the Dem's just ask exactly when that relationship was broken? Why can't the NYT or WaPo pose that question and do some investigating? The subject appears too hot to discuss for some reason.

7. And doesn't it seem an incredible "coincidence" that Bin Laden, of all of

3. Funny how we only hear the urology part of this. Consider the
highlights of this:

American hospital
Saudi friends, personalities, family
kidney problems generally talked about as a truth
CIA 'visits' him, brags, is recalled
Dates

These are all verifiable sourcing points - I tend to believe what the French have been reporting starting early on the morning of 9-11.

It makes you want to believe the reports that he was escorted out of Afghanistan by our people.

When you look at our strange and conflicted relationship with Pakistan, especially when considering that we never attack them in spite of what appears to be double crossing on other issues and the fact that many believe that bL is still in Pakistan (if still alive).

Personally, I don't believe any of the bL tapes because I strongly suspect a bL-CIA connection if not a bL-Cheney/PNAC connection.

bL is the enemy because he was created to be the enemy? T or F?

4. You'd figure you'd have more than one source
after 5 years. Here's a much better accounting of the story:

6. He was also reportedly in a Pakistan military hospital on 9/10/2001
This was reported by our own CBS News. They still have the video and article up.

Hospital Worker: I Saw Osama

Jan. 28, 2002

"They military had him surrounded. I have seen many pictures of the man. He is the man we know as Osama bin Laden."
Hospital employee

(CBS) Everyone remembers what happened on Sept. 11 and, reports CBS News Correspondent Barry Petersen, here's the story of what may have happened the night before.

In a tale as twisted as the hunt for Osama bin Laden, CBS Evening News has been told that the night before the Sept. 11 terrorists attack, Osama bin Laden was in Pakistan. He was getting medical treatment with the support of the very military that days later pledged its backing for the U.S. war on terror in Afghanistan.
