These DO NOT belong in civilian hands
I have a friend who hunts and he knows I don't really like guns but I wouldn't dream of anything that would ban his or anyones hunting guns, but this is so different a bunch of Ya-Hoo's in nra hats shooting machine guns and letting SMALL CHILDREN shoot them as well.http://video.msn.com/v/us/msnbc.htm?g=bedd02f8-9539-4baa-b834-f52a36c115a8&f=00&fg=email

10. It's fun

I know both conservatives and liberals that love to shoot things up. I didn't see the clip but from the thread it sounds like they have big machine guns or something like that. And my answer isn't meant to be smart or snippy, but it is that simple, it's fun. Not everyone enjoys but many do.

3. I beg to differ.
You need to be licensed to own one of these. And the licenses are not easy to get. Machine guns, especially vintage guns from WW-1 aircraft are a fascination of mine. And I really don't care what you think about me owning them.

6. I am with you on this.
My Canadian GF and I just had a little dust-up on this very subject.

But I can shoot you in the eye (easily) at 110 yards.

So I win.

I am a fool for a fine firearm.

How some type of machines can fascinate. But these are nothing more than weapons of war and war is not something thats progressive at all.

8. How progressive is it to tell me what I can own?
That is a slippery slope. And one that results in horrible repressions once you slide down it too far.

11. I honestly don't see that as a slippery slope
Plain and simple these are weapons of war and have no place in civilized society, but like I said I see nothing wrong with a hunting rifle.

15. Lots of things are weapons of war.
The dynamite I used to buy to do demolition, for example. Even potassium nitrate fertilizer and diesel fuel. (As in the OKC Federal Building bombing) is a weapon of War. Start prohibiting anything that might just possibly be a weapon of war, and you have a problem on your hands.

And isn't it only a weapon if it is used against somebody? Having them on a shooting range will never kill a soul. Hell, these "weapons" cannot even be used to hunt! They are therefore the most harmless of all guns! There has not been a criminal act with a machine gun in many, many, many years.

But hunting rifles? Seems to me that there was a murder of some hunters with a hunting rifle in Wisconsin last year.

But let me ask you this; If the government becomes NAKEDLY fascist, do you want them owning the only weapons of war?

Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 12:32 AM by DianaForRussFeingold
You may be trustworthy but how can you guarantee some nut won't get a hold of them? Also even if they are locked up,children are very curious and may find some way to get in. Personally I wouldn't have one in my house. As a matter of fact,I don't want those in my town.If you want to shoot those, sign up for the military. Police don't even have machine guns! Trigger-happy people scare me.

You never store them assembled. You remove the critical and impossible to replace bits and lock them away.

26. Can you guarantee your car...
...won't be stolen and used in a crime?

Do you lock up your steak knives to keep your kids away from them?

Are there any baseball bats in your town that can be used to bash somebody's head in?

Most good-sized police departments, in fact, do own machine guns. You should try knowing what you're talking about before you talk about it.

If you don't like guns, stay away from them and us legal shooters.

32. Any Children Getting In My Place Are Breaking and Entering
I don't have children. I'm not friends with any children. My friends do not have children. Any children who find themselves in my place have committed a crime, because they have had to break in. I don't really feel the need to protect hypothetical children.

20. There are no licenses for machine guns
You merely pay a $200 transfer tax, for which you get a stamp which must be with the machine gun and its owner at all times away from home. A friend can borrow a rifle, shotgun or pistol, but not a machine gun. Anyone with a clean record and a bag of money can buy a machine gun.

25. That's the license I refer to.
You can call it a tax stamp if you like, but it amounts to a license. And they DO make sure you have a clean record.

27. It's NOT a license
A license...for driving, teaching or nursing...requires passing a test. Getting the $200 transfer stamp for a machine gun merely shows a clean record and a big bank account. No competence with the weapon need be demonstrated, unfortunately, although most people who buy machine guns are capable.

That said, I just love to drive it.

I am also an accomplished marksman and have no problem with these yayhoos going out and blasting away.

I was shooting before I was 5 years old.

What bothers me with this clip is the caliber (or lack of same)...

Unbelievable work on otherwordly machines. He also has a 1927 Auburn Roadster.

The guy in the house next door to him does pre-67 Porsche Speedster/Cabriolet rally cars.

I was talking about my Carrera GT (Porsche).

Just as with a great weapon, it has taken some (a lot of) time and effort to master.

21. You like those cars?
I am in Tiburon (north across the Bay) and we just had our annual waterfront car show.

You would have almost wet your pants.

The Auburn was there.

I would probably hyperventilate if that line-up in your pic roared by.

Did you check out my car (Carrera GT? I don't know how to post pics, but you can see it at:http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/carrera-gt/modelinformation/)? If you get to Tiburon, let me know. We will go tear up the road to Stinson Beach.

That's like a $500,000 car. I have a great picture of a Carrera GT going through a turn in an orange sandstone canyon that I sometimes use as my backdrop. If you ever need someone to wash it or take it out for a fill-up, just call me. I'll stop whatever I'm doing.

36. I have had some fast cars and some fine cars.
But this one takes the cake.

I bought it because I just couldn't resist.

Had it repainted in Gun Metal Gray Metallic so it would be different than any other I might encounter.
Of course, I have yet to see another.

I live in a little town that is loaded with fine cars, but this one stops traffic.
It drives like a Formula car, but is MUCH easier to bring out of a dead stop.
Feels like you are driving on a cable, no surprises.

I am going to do Hwy 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) soon.

19. Who are you to decide who can own what?
I am a fire-breathing, knee-jerk, bleeding-heart, left-wing/counterculture/McGovernik librul, but I also am a recreational shooter. My shooting buddies sometimes call me "the heavily-armed librul." I own several military rifles and pistols, and shoot them regularly. (For the record, with my assistance, some of my conservative shooting buddies are finally beginning to see Bush for the fascist he is. But that's another discussion.)

I defend ownership of legal machine guns for legitimate purposes: recreational shooting, reenacting and/or collecting/investing. A number of my shooting buddies have let me shoot over 25 of their legal machine guns in recent years, and I can tell you that it's a lot of fun. It's also incredibly expensive to own even one machine gun, which is why I don't own any. But I would if I could.

People who legally own machine guns are not going to commit crimes with them. To the best of my recollection, exactly two legally-owned machine guns have ever been used in crimes. Ever.

You have no right to announce that law-abiding citizens ought not have or do something just because you don't want to have or do it. To do so makes you no better than theofascist bullies like Falwell and Dobson who think they're licensed to tell everyone else how to live.
