Former bu$h/Helms Aid (common Republican thief) tries to avoid trial
This Claude Allen is a real slimebag. But of course anyone who is a Republican working for bu$h/Jesse Helms would have to be in order to fit in with the Republican modus operandi in general. Still, what a disgusting weasel. This guy made $161K/year and was STILL a conniving theif. Republicans -- what can ya say?

Former Bush Aide From N.C. Talks With Prosecutors Over Charges

UPDATED: 12:13 am EDT June 30, 2006

ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Former White House adviser Claude Allen is negotiating with prosecutors in hopes of avoiding a trial on theft charges, according to his attorney.

The Raleigh, N.C., native and former aide to North Carolina Sen. Jesse Helms was to go on trial Friday for allegedly trying to make fraudulent returns worth at least $5,000 at Target and other stores.

...snipage

According to police, Allen would buy items, take them to his car, then return to the store and choose identical items from the shelves. Using the receipt from his first purchase, he would then return the second items and receive a refund.

The graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke Law School is accused of using the scheme at least 25 times, on purchases ranging from a $525 theater system to items that cost just $2.50.

1. Sounds like mental illness to me...
...if he's doing it with $2.50 items, it's not something he's doing for gain...there's a psycological component somewhere...

2. Yep, but . . .
If he was plain old Claude Allen, ordinary black man in North Carolina instead of black man who worked for Jesse Helms, he'd be sitting forgotten in a dirty, dingy little North Carolina cell, mental illness or no mental illness.

...they'd have locked him up and tossed the key in the ocean if he were just a 'regular joe'. Or, a Democrat.

3. Could be...
...he's some kind of kleptomaniac. Or--something. I just can't imagine someone making $161k/year stealing stuff, unless he's a sicko or just a real slimebag (or both).
