22. Centure? Are you series??!?!111
Geez, I don't normally get snarky about a person's spelling, but these people are beyond beyond. If they weren't allowed to use words they can't spell, they wouldn't be able to say anything. Not even something this stupid.

What idiots. Arlen Specter IS "doing the job" by GOP standards. Sure, he's having another ego-driven hissy fit. Once again, as before, he feels dissed by Bush and has to have a tantrum over it. For Arlen Specter, holding hearings is the equivalent of lying on the ground, kicking his feet, pounding his little fists, and screaming. But in the end, he will vote with the administration as he always does.

4. Wow. From most of the
ignorant, idiotic, hypocritical comments, it's obvious most of them have no true grasp of the constitution. They actually think the president is given more power than the Congress by the constitution, and that it allows increasing prez power, or the "unitary executive" bullshit. IDIOTS!

And why do they keep insinuating that Specter is Scottish?

It's interesting that a few of them actually agree with Specter on this one.

9. When Clinton was impeached...
instead of saying "Not Guilty" Specter voted "Not Proven" a standard from Scottish law, that insinuates guilt, but not enough proof to show it beyond a reasonable doubt.

I think Specter may be on the correct side of this one. A signing statement seems like a quasi-line-item veto. This is about the executive vs the legislative, and I think it's and appropriate debate. But yeah, "Specter is a douche" is much simpler and easier an argument.

``Signing statements are an appropriate means by which the president fulfills his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed."

Specter is a Clymer, we all agree, but the passive-aggressive childishness of signing something, then saying you won't enforce it is exactly the opposite of 'faithful execution.'

Bush 'enforcement' of immigration laws shows where this leads.

The Congress does in fact have the power to "make all laws." Seems to me "signing statements" are questionable.

27 posted on 06/28/2006 8:38:54 AM PDT by Huck (Hey look, I'm still here.)

It sound like what Bush is doing is using this tradition in lieu of a line item veto.
And that appears to me to be unconstitutional. Ppl here can moan all they want that Specter is disloyal. I think he's probably correct on this one. Let's see it go to the SCOTUS. Be interesting to see what they say. Seems to me the president can sign or veto, not alter and amend. This stuff happens from time to time. GWB has a real Jacksonian streak in him, and Specter sticks up for the Senate. This is checks and balances in action. The Bush-should-get-whatever-he-wants crowd be damned.

11. What's truly funny, and sad, about this
Is that if they would take the time to check out Specter's past history and MO, they would find that ol' Arlen has a history of providing cover for the Republicans. Sure, he's going to whine and moan on this one for awhile, all the time providing cover for the Republicans. And then once this issue fades away, you won't hear a peep from from him. There is going to be no legilation, there is going to be no lawsuit. There's just going to a bunch of hot air expelled until the whole thing blows over.

And Bush will continue with these illegal and unconstitutional signing statements, and if somebody brings them up, the 'Pugs can say they looked into the matter and there was no "there" there.
