Bush and the Repubs' plan to attack Social Security after election...
Just saying...
================
(from a Bush speech yesterday) linked from www.talkingpointsmemo.com

<snip>
As you might recall, I addressed that issue last year, focusing on Social Security reform. I'm not through talking about the issue. I spent some time today in the Oval Office with the United States senators, and they're not through talking about the issue either. It's important for this country -- (applause) -- I know it's hard politically to address these issues. Sometimes it just seems easier for people to say, we'll deal with it later on. Now is the time for the Congress and the President to work together to reform Medicare and reform Social Security so we can leave behind a solvent balance sheet for our next generation of Americans. (Applause.)

If we can't get it done this year, I'm going to try next year. And if we can't get it done next year, I'm going to try the year after that, because it is the right thing to do. It's just so easy to say, let somebody else deal with it. Now is the time to solve the problems of Medicare and Social Security, and I want your help. I need the Manhattan Institute to continue to agitate for change and reform. You've got a big voice. You got creative thinkers, and if you don't mind, I'd like to put this on your agenda, and let you know the White House and members of the Senate and the House are anxious to deal with this issue and get it done once and for all.

1. gee ya think dems will bring this up as an election issue as in:
Republicans declare war on social security RECIPIENTS in attempt to destroy social security?

its all about the language, dearies.

say it over and over because it's true. say it over and over and it will be believed.
the goal is to make the repubs defend themselves and their positions.

just as in Republicans declare war on african-americans as they relate to election fraud and
disenfranchisement. I do not hold my breath waiting for this tack however.

4. Stupid or stubborn?
He either isn't listening to the people or is just so stubborn, he won't listen. In part, he says:

"...reform Medicare and reform Social Security so we can leave behind a solvent balance sheet for our next generation of Americans."

What's he going to do? Finish robbing SS to pay for his war? We cannot allow him to even think of changing SS. If it needs fixing, we'll handle it AFTER he is out of office.

If he was so damned interested in a solvent balance sheet for our next generation of Americans, he wouldn't have wasted all that money on his war folly. He doesn't care about them now (NCLB is a good example) and, at the rate he's going, two more years in office will have the next two generations paying for his poor judgment.

He's a piece of work, that's for sure.

5. Judd Gregg on the floor of Senate talking about SS right now...
I guess he was one of the Senators that Bush had over to the White House yesterday? They've started. Not even Repubs would believe that their Party could save Social Security...

The cut-throat chimp will pass the War On Iraq to the real President but he won't rest until he steals our Social Security?
