Former First Lady, President's Mother Visits Children's Hospital

The president's mother took some time Monday morning to read to sick children in Portland. Barbara Bush read one of her favorite stories to kids at the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

After the storytelling session, she spent some time visiting with the children.

The former first lady is a frequent visitor to the hospital,

particularly in the summer months,

when she and former President Bush stay at the family home in Kennebunkport.

======

"Particularly in the summer months" my ass. If she EVER visits this hospital whilst wintering in Houston I would eat my hat.

1. It CAN'T be good
for sick children to be exposed to an evil old bat like her!

3. What a horrible thing to subject sick children to.
If that old harpy walked into some kid's hospital room, the poor kid would probably code on the spot.

8. Here's an account of another visit to that same hospital
Barbara Swings Away

Oct. 27 issue - “There’s the great Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital,” of Portland, Maine, the woman it was named after says as we approach for a recent visit. “And—this makes me laugh—look at the nurses standing across the street smoking.”

(snip)

At the hospital, she reads a story to some young patients and makes them laugh. But back in the van for the drive home to Kennebunkport, she says that the book she was given to read was without educational value and that the hospital administrators were obsequious—a quality she dislikes. “They thanked me three times, when once would have been fine.” Then, softening abruptly, she thinks back to that morning’s visit to the hospital’s neonatal ICU, where she saw premature infants in incubators. “Where do you draw the line” in saving those who would not have survived in another time? “What kind of quality of life? It’s the same thing with old age. Are we doing the right thing?” Then again she says of one severely impaired newborn, “But, they say she’s brought great happiness ...”

(snip)

It’s actually “a pain in the neck” to be the sibling of a sitting president, she says, and tells how her daughter, Doro Koch, picketed outside Vice President Al Gore’s residence “in disguise” during the 2000 recount. “That’s Doro!” Mrs. Bush hoots when telling about it. “She felt better” after yelling at the Gores’ house for a while, Mrs. Bush says.

thankful to her. Having a good children hospital near is very important to Maine and I would day to Barbara also.

I don't know what you mean by you would 'day to Barbara' but I doubt she is inconvenienced to visit there when not summering in Kport.

17. Well it is near so easy and people are happy with what she did
to bring in money. No fault in that for the hospital or her. Heck I am happy that the first lady likes books.

20. Me thinks she does it for the wrong reason also but
as long as it helped the hospital I will not get to up tight about it. That family is really sort of slimy. Some how we seem to have put a lot of second rate people in power or it is how I look at it. We use money as meaning class.

My heart goes out to those poor children. Not only are they suffering from illness, but they're herded in for a photo-op with that wrinkled ice-hearted crone. What a gyp....I bet the more delirious ones were thinking it was Halloween and they were getting a visit from Mr. Cold Miser.
