Chuck Hagel?
Will he get clobbered in the primaries by the Wingnut Right? I just saw him with Joe Biden on Blitzer, and once again he came off sounding very rational. I know he's a Republican't, but on foreign policy, he sounds like a pretty stand-up guy. What do you guys think?

2. yes on foreign policy, but
the problem is that on ALL other issues, he is way on the right.

He probably is the GOPs only hope of a seemingly
"normal" human being, the others being more reptilian in
appearance and actions.

4. No, thanks. He's very conservative on social issues.
His stance on the minimum wage, for example: http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=1673&u_sid=2195540

He also criticized (Ben) Nelson for voting for the minimum wage bill proposed by Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass. Hagel said the vote proved that Nelson was not a true conservative.

It's disappointing, because his public persona is, of course, no nonsense, and I generally have more respect for him than I do for Nelson. Unfortunately, Hagel often talks one game and votes another.

5. He thinks Ben Nelson of NE votes with Ted Kennedy too much.
I don't have the link, but there was a recent thread about Hagel bitching about how partisan Nelson is. Nelson even voted for the minimum wage increase! The nerve!

10. The link is in my post above.
I had the exact same thought - Ben Nelson voted for the minimum wage. What nerve!

That article made me so mad that I wrote a letter to Hagel.

8. He's the GOP's best pick
And that scares the hell out of me!

I think he's the ONLY candidate they have that can unite the wacko fundy, moderate, and war monger wings of the party.

Dems need to split the right wing's uneasy coalition. McCain and Giuliani turn off the religious nuts, people like Allen and Frist turn off the moderates. Hagel can play both sides.

To top it all off, he's the only repuke with solid credentials against the way bushco handled the war. That could sway some swing voters. He's by far our biggest threat in '08.

17. He's been a vocal critic of BushCo on the war from day-one.
Republican'ts here in Nebraska consider him a traitor. Then again, if you aren't an ex-corporal from Austria, you're probably considered a Leftie here in Nebraska...
