Some mild Freeper bullying at last nights screening of 'Inconvenient Truth
Edited on Tue Jun-27-06 10:33 AM by romantico
I was in line with some friends to see "An Inconvenient Truth'. I told the ticket clerk the movie I wanted. Behind me a guy said, "Should be called an Inconvenient Lie!" Before I turned around the clerk stopped & pointed to him & said "Sir! There will be none of that, do you hear me?! (ignoring her looking away)I will take the fact that your face is beat red & your ignoring me that thats a yes!" I said to the lady thank you. She said no problem. I then asked if that happens alot. She said only once on opening day. She said it happend when Farenheit 911 opened, some gay themed movies & a few loud arguments with "Goodnight & Good luck & even when The Passion of the Christ opened. She says harassing theatre goers is a 'no no' here at Loews! I thanked her again.

Then I was in line to get popcorn & the same guy was behind me. He kept looking at me like he was gonna say something but never did.

So, the movie is over. I more or less forgot about the whole thing & saw him coming out of the bathroom as we passed to exit. The guy then looked at me called me an asshole as he sped (well, walked pretty fast) to the door & left.I didn't even have a chance to tell the people I went with what happend. They looked at me like I knew the guy. They said 'Who was that?' Whats with these people?

1. They're scared little ignoramuses
Their little bubble of denial is getting harder and harder to sustain and they can sense it. Instead of being introspective and rethinking their world view, they lash out instead.

7. this guy
This guy was REALLY angry. You could se it in his eyes & his face. While waiting inline for popcorn I actually felt uncomfortable with him right behind me. I knew he was gonna say something. His face just looked like he was trying to find the right words but couldn't fast enough.

4. They're SCARED
plus they're just generally unhappy, nasty people.

Remember, everything he has always believed in is coming to shit, and that is tough to take.

It doesn't mean you need to accept bad behavior with a smile. It means you just can't take it personally.

These Freepers always treat people like Morgan Spurlock or Eric Schlosser with nothing but the greatest disdain, because they have the gall to tell you what's actually in that fast food you're shoving down your throat (and/or what it does to your body). They're traitors, pussies, communists, etc., but where is the harm in telling people exactly what it is they're eating?

Or with recycling, etc. If you're done with a plastic bottle, and there are recycling services where you are, why shouldn't you recycle it? What good does it do to just toss all that plastic into a landfill?

They seem to be complete corporate masochists: they'd rather be poisoned and lied to by corporations than helped by the government or other people. If you went up to a Freeper and said you saw one of the workers at the fast food restaurant spit in his soda, he'd go apeshit at whoever did it, but if you told him that you have documented proof the restaurant regularly uses antifreeze as a sweetener, he'd say, "Well, they wouldn't do it if it was dangerous to their customers, so I wouldn't be too worried." Fucking nutjobs.

Edit: spelling

28. It's because they step out of line
They can't handle when people step out of line or question authority.

Look, the problem is that you have too rosy a view about humanity. We're not a creative individualistic species. We're gregarious uniform copycats. Stay together. Stay in line. Do what everyone else does.

My parents had a VW Camper in the 70's for us because it was easier to haul around kids and groceries in it than in a sedan or station wagon. Yet they got made fun of merciliessly by people for it. Thirty years later nearly everyone with kids has a minivan. Progress is made by the people who stand up. The people who question authority or come up with a different way to do things. Those people are the exception not the rule.

The rule for humanity is to not stick out. To hammer down the nail. When people dare to stand up and question anything these people get angry. Some angry enough to try and hammer that nail back down. You can make the argument that it's an evolutionary advantage. Too much change too fast can be dangerous. It can lead down a wrong path too quickly. Change has to happen slowly for the majority of people. They're scared of change. They're scared of standing up. They're scared of taking a chance. They're scared of people who do, so they attack and make fun of them.

IMHO

9. What's with these people?
Deep, deep denial in the vast majority, and unbearable cognitive dissidence in the more intelligent of their kind.

I haven't gotten out to see it yet. What did you think?

By the way, I haven't talked to Al about this personally, but I came up with one of my button designs months before I heard about Inconvenient Truth:

Edited on Tue Jun-27-06 10:39 AM by Brigid
They're cornered rats and they know it. Thing is, the cornered rat can't escape the reality that the cat that cornered it is much bigger, with a full set of teeth and claws. The outcome is inevitable, no matter how viciously the rat may fight. All the cat has to do is not give in to fear, and he'll win. He may sustain a few bites, but he'll do it. In the same way, we "cats" can do this. We can beat these "rats."

12. It's amazing how aggressive some people get
when the profits of their corporate masters are threatened.

Of course he couldn't be programmed as easily if ignorance wasn't his strong suit.

Unless he was in his 80s, he'll live to accept the facts in "Inconvenient Truth" and learn to adjust his life accordingly...albeit, kicking and screaming the whole way.

16. It was a pretty good crowd too!
For a Monday night screening the theatre was half full. Lots of gasps & talking during the movie(in a good way)Mixed crowd. Saw some seniors, some teens, some thirty-forty something crowd. Same theatre had protesters outside when we saw "Davinci Code". Its a sad day when people feel they can control & dictate what movies you should see & what types not to se.

13. pervasive cowardice...
Their entire worldview is wrapped up in the idea that they are in the majority and that the government/authorities are on their side (and therefore they are all-powerful and big strong men), but when that worldview comes up against reality and they find out that they are both in the minority and the authorities (in this case the theater employee) are not on their side, all of that false bravado disintegrates and they are left with nothing but their own pathetic impotence (in both the mental and Limbaugh sense... ;-) ).

...one that ran over the selfish idiots and spared everyone else.

...just wishful thinking. Unfortunately, it will be the poor in areas near sea level that will bear the brunt of this. And it will be species that are killed off so that dickbags like him can drive around being assholes to everyone who's unfortunate enough to meet them.

17. he called you an "asshole", for seeing a movie?
I mean, you didn't even say anything to this fucker, right? Like it's your fault that the climate is changing, because you actually watched the movie? If we don't see the monster, then the monster can't hurt us, right? Jesus H. Christ. I hope that guy fucking dies. I've had it with trying to be nice, patient, and polite with people like that. I hope he chokes on his own brain-juice.

19. Where was this? I can't even imagine having a stranger...
question my choice of a movie when I'm at the ticket booth. And like a typical right winger, he "cut and run" after his immature little insult. Typical bullies, they do all that spewing, but when it's time for a face-to-face confrontation, they take off like the frightened donkeys that they are.

21. Their world is falling apart
literally. The whole careful construct that everything is just ducky, the adults are in charge, nothing is wrong with the environment, etc. etc. is under attack by reality. Reality (news stories, their own experiences at the pump, with the weather, and so on) keeps telling them there is a sh**load wrong, but they can't bring themselves to believe their senses.

Plus, and maybe this is the bigger thing, reading crap like Mann Coulter, watching Bill O'liely and listening to RW hate radio hypes these folks up. He**, listening to them makes me want to beat someone up (except it is generally the host!). They espouse violence and hatred constantly.

The guy was a loudmouth jerk, was reprimanded by a theater employee and told the rules, then had to call you an asshole to blame you rather than himself for his idiocy.

There will always be those who are idiots, and who will always blame others for their actions, and will do so overtly and/or covertly.

Oh yeah...those would be called FReepers aka Republicans! :D

24. The parties have learned well from organized religion
The money is in the division.

You must hate your enemy with every fiber of your being and label them with the titles that conjur up the most amount of hate possible.

Go read today's Rush Limbaugh threads. It's by no means exclusive to "them."

There's a lot of us who pray the prayer of St. Francis, and as Desmond Tutu said, we mean it.

27. Their bizarre mind fuck world is falling apart all around them
and they can't stand the fact that they bought into the lie.

And like the big assholes that they are, they painted themselves into a corner and refuse to admit they totally fucked up.

so when ever something like F911 or an inconvenient truth or syriana or good night, good luck comes around and upsets their fucked up world of lies, they get all pissy.

I find it very amusing, actually.
