Posters at right-wing board (Free Republic) threaten to kill Times editors
I mean, this is horrifying that there are people who claim they are god fearing and yet post crap like this on a public website which is nothing short terroristic threats

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Posters_at_rightwing_board_threaten_to_0626.html

Posters at the right-wing Free Republic message board today were roused into a fury of indignation by a news story about the New York Times' revelations of the administration's illegal programs of warrantless surveillance. Posted by an individual calling himself or herself "pissant," the story quoted Vice-President Cheney as saying:

"The New York Times has now twice -- two separate occasions -- disclosed programs; both times they had been asked not to publish those stories by senior administration officials. They went ahead anyway. The leaks to The New York Times and the publishing of those leaks is very damaging."

<<<<snip>>>>>
However, they soon became increasingly vindictive:

"Whoever it is, needs to spend the rest of his pathetic life in the slammer."

"Indictments, arrests and imprisonments are very much in order here. Not to put too fine a point on it, but just how much treason is our president prepared to tolerate?"

The thread quickly took on the quality of a lynch mob, with posters attempting to outdo one another in their level of imaginary violence:

"I can only hope I get to see the video of Sulzberger's beheading! :)"

"If the government won't act, perhaps some private citizens will."

"Tar, feathers? You are the very definition of the term 'restraint'. I was thinking more along the lines of the Muslim solution."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So help me if myself or ANYONE at DU posts crap like this towards another human being that not only we be banned from the website but reported to the appropriate authorities. It's all fun and games to joke about someone and perhaps 'wish he/she would just die' but threats like this are what causes the 'lone gunman' to take what was perhaps written in jest and go out and enact it.

1. Someday the other shoe is going to drop
Not just Free Republic but the likes of Ann Coulter and David Horowitz have also encouraged violence against Liberals as a possible "solution." Someday someones going to act on that.

Seems inevitable.

Of course it might already have happened and they successfully covered it up.

15. I think they are baiting some freaks on the boards..
.. because they know that there are some there who would take that as a call to perform the "deed".

They are some sick mo-fo's, that's for sure.

2. Sadly, that's typical Freeper rhetoric, too.
They commonly resort to suggesting executing people for having opinions they don't like. That's why I'm proud to be one of us, and not one of them.

They feel small, and powerless, and want to kill everything they are afraid of or don't like or agree with. That's the right wing mantra - hate, kill, fear.

So sad.

3. That's all they're good for.
Posting threatening messages. They'll say and do anything if they think it will protect their precious little leader.

9. But that is the biggest danger there
Because it takes just one person to heed those words and decide he/she must take action that could result in something that rivals what happened in Oklahoma City. Those comments are nothing more than terroristic threats which could lead to a lone wolf taking actions that could have dire consequences

14. You nailed it.
That's all it takes. Just one loser who thinks this is his big ticket to be a "hero" to the other losers. Just one raving nutjob who blames the world, the press, the "libdems" for his sad, sorry, pathetic life and sees a chance to shine. Lord knows they have plenty of people over there who fit the description.

6. There have been such mindless threats posted on DU over the years. . .
fortunately, the mods are generally quick to delete and occasionally the offenders are banned.

7. Well, you have to realize, the NYTimes has little to fear from freepturds
unless the people at the NYTimes are 4-year-old quadrapalegic little mute girls . . . about the level that freepturds think that they would be involved in a fair fight . . . although the 4-year-old mutes would be the intellectual Goliaths in the battle . . .

8. Surely, if the Miami 7 can be indicted that insane asylum
of FR can have some charges brought down on its members participating in such vile, murderous talk.

HAW HAW! As a heavy treasoner himself, he has a very high tolerance. It is a clear indication of the level of his addiction.

13. they're gasbags....
Edited on Tue Jun-27-06 10:36 AM by mike_c
With respect to the OP, I think we can agree that freepers are not really very dangerous. I suppose they might encourage some actual psycho to swerve in their particular mad direction, but until that happens they're just gasbags venting foul odors. I wouldn't give them the credence necessary to get upset at their ravings.

16. "much ado about nothing"
During Clinton's term, he attempted to get a law enacted to monitor banking, specifically foreign banking, for terrorism. The repuke congress voted it down. Now Bush is monitoring banking which includes domestic banking, and the freepers (less government types), could care less if they're wiretapped, monitored and generally spied upon. Tell me what's the big deal with this announcement by the media? An administration who thinks they're above the law, or create they're own laws, with blatant disregard to their supposed constituency, comes as no surprise for their invasions into our lives. This is "much ado about nothing"; however, it redirects the focus of real treasonous actions of outing a CIA network.
