Republican Leaders Cutting and Running from Effective Policy
Many Republican leaders are repeating the phrase "cut and run" in order to mislabel the position of Democrats on Iraq war policy. What Democrats and some Republicans want is tough policy that is also effective. Most Americans want tough policy to combat many of America's health threats. We want tough policy in response to crime and to respond to 9-11.

When you advocate taking the fight to Bin Laden and international terrorists, effective policy does not include attacking Iraq. We will make more terrorists than we can ever kill. When you want to fight a war on drugs effective policy includes mandated treatment for many offenders. Without this you end up spending 10 times as much on prison fees for someone who will just re-offend when released. When you want to improve public health you can not ignore preventative care, it saves money by reducing emergency room visits and saves lives.

Americans need policy makers who will not cut and run from the truth and the best interest of the people. Tough policy is worthless if it is not effective. Americans need leaders who will not cut and run from policy that works.

1. Nixon Cut And Ran...They Hate When You Cite That...
It was Nixon who came up with "Peace With Honor" that was strictly cut and run. Eisenhower did a similar thing with Korea.

What is the objective in Iraq now? A peaceful government that plays nice? Sorry, that's not the fate here and delaying the inevitable means more Americans dead and wounded. As someone recently said, the question now isn't do we have 2500 names on the Iraq memorial that one day will be built on the Mall but if it will be 5,000 or 10,000. Let's hope not!

The asshats who say "by building a time frame" all the "insurgents" have to do is wait us out. Hell, hasn't this regime said all along with isn't an occupation? It's "helping" the Iraqis sort out their own mess...but what these morons don't realize is these people LIVE in that country. They're not going anywhere...they've been fighting each other for centuries and to think this won't happen the moment we bail out (which we will) with all the arms that have flooded into that country and the various militias that now openly operate there is kool-aided beyond hope.

The only thing a continued American military presence in that country does is create a unifying agent among these groups to do one thing...get rid of the Americans. Put the shoe on the other foot...if this country were occupied, ya think Democrats and Repugnicans would put aside most of our disagreements to expell the occupier...I sure think we would.

4. Welcome To DU
Of course its posturing and sloganeering and those who don't see it as such deserve to be taken advantage of...and many have. But a growing majority in this country see through the bullshit and aren't buying the lies. The hypocrisies are so blatant now and the promises of this regime so unfulfilled (unless you're rich and got another tax cut) that this rhetoric will backfire.

Polls show a majority want a "cut" policy...a goal to achieve and a timeframe to expect this to happen. We want to know what signs of "victory" are needed. Most though we'd bump off Saddam and our troops would be home and in victory parades in weeks and months. It's now 3 ugly years later with no end in sight and an even foggier future ahead. In the meantime our military gets more demoralized...and this is getting back to the "folks at home"...thus the slime boating now of John Murtha.

Focusing on their lies and trying to refute them is a strawman's game and one the Democrats always lose at. It's time to create our own message and voice and see how they refute it.

Cheers...
