4. Iraqi PM unveils reconciliation plan
Edited on Sun Jun-25-06 06:25 AM by acmejack
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's prime minister presented a plan for national reconciliation to parliament on Sunday, but Nuri al-Maliki was short on detail on how he aims to end what he called the "ugly picture" of life in Iraq.

The plan has been the subject of intense behind-the-scenes negotiation among the fractious sectarian and ethnic parties that make up the governing coalition and the result appeared to have been an absence of much that was controversial.
snip>
After a 15-minute address, Maliki won approval from leaders of the Sunni minority that was dominant under Saddam Hussein, many of whom have rebelled against the new U.S.-backed order.

But contrary to some suggestions floated by politicians during discussions on the plan, there was no bold new call for talks with Sunni insurgent groups nor reversal of bans on Saddam Hussein's supporters in the Baath party -- though he did promise a review of "debaathification" laws barring them from office.

Four Points:

Timetable for Coalition withdrawl
Amnesty for Insurgents
Release of Prisoners
Reparations for victims of Coaliton operations

14. To begin with, to her, if we would extricate ourselves from their homeland
and leave them the fuck alone and pay for our damage there wouldn't be an insurgency. No matter how much spinning a person does this war is illegal, immoral and outright Wrong. We have tore up enough shit for the Iraqi to be 100% employed in rebuilding alone for years to come and that to me is the way to the answer of how it is we remove ourselves from their soil.
old navy man here 9-'67 thru 10-'70, never seen a ship so I guess you can just call me a dry land sailer, but a proud swabbie nevertheless.
Welcome to DU, :toast: here's hoping you enjoy your time.
Us old military folks need all the help we can get  just kidding on that one.

9. Heard the call. Wonder how she reasons this
These same things happened before we were a country and in fact in BC. I sure hated Logic 101 in college but these people really are always mixing apples and oranges. Sounds just like GOP talk radio. Then one does have to look at what one believes even when it is off. It does count.

10. All cheap labor republicans failed common sense 101.. Look at
the way they viewed WMD's as the reason to invade Iraq..

Before the invasion of Iraq, you and I knew there weren’t any WMD's. One reason being we would not have invaded them in the first place if they had WMD's. We would have not put our soldiers in that kind of danger. Look at all the countries we avoid because they do have WMD's. After the first few days of the war, it should have been very clear to the brainwashed cons that there weren’t any weapons of mass destruction. What is the reason for having WMD’s in the first place, if you’re not going to use them against an invading army? That should have been a wake up call to the willfully ignorant, but no instead they chose to believe even a more ridiculous argument that Saddam moved them. Why would, he had moved them? Was he saving them for a rainy day? Using common sense, not a republican trait!

12. I guess this is their reason,. If Bush said it it is right.
It must be nice to have such faith but it was not what our country was set up on. We were to always question our leaders just because power made it something we had to question. That is not a good English answer but trust in power was not a thing we could leave to a person who had power but had to go back to the people. It is just to messy for them I guess.

16. I do not know but I could go down threw our history and show more
World history also. It is like they have an ideal in their mind and they make that person that ideal and not one thing will change it. And we see they get mad if others do not think like that. Almost like they need it for it to make how they think OK. Books used to be written about such things and now we have a gov. taking apart how we have live.
