Iraq PM Maliki LIVE on CNN NOW BREAKING! 4:20 AM
Edited on Sun Jun-25-06 03:24 AM by Ghost in the Machine
reading his speech now

on edit: More details will follow soon, but he already mentioned releasing prisoners and giving amnesty. I'll try to keep up with it for a while, as much as I can, anyways.

1. Does he exclude amnesty to those who've killed US troops?
Big issue here and everywhere, and it's very hard to believe the US would let him include amnesty to those who've killed US troops... which surprise surprise makes the amnesty worthless to real guerillas.

2. Last I heard he WOULD give amnesty to insurgents who killed troops
per MSNBC before the speech. How will THAT go over with Freddie Freeper?

6. Sounds correct
The exemption on amnesty would be for those who killed Iraqi people.

10. The NY Times has reported the amnesty doesn't go that far
It'll be for people who haven't committed criminal or terrorist acts, Which means, people who would've been released amnesty or no amnesty, and certainly not anyone who's killed US troops, making it utterly, completely worthless to anyone.

As I expected.

11. And no amnesty for US troops who killed Iraqis!
Hang them all! Is that your view? Or only "no amnesty" for those who killed the invaders?

3. guess we're about to find out just how "free" this "democratically elected
government" really is, huh?

What is ShrubCo going to do? Threaten to pull out all the troops?

4. I think they are waiting until they get a transcript of the speech..
The interpreter couldn't even keep up with him... sounded like he was half asleep and Maliki was on fire!

I know that the amnesty is a tender spot to many people here, but I also have to think about this: If Iraq, or any other country, invaded us, would we expect to be arrested and tried by our government for killing the occupiers?? .... I know I wouldn't expect to be. I'd expect to be freed by my government if I had been detained by occupying forces for fighting against them.

5. Question is, WHEN do they get amnesty?
If they get amnesty while US troops are still there, not so good for US troops...

7. I understand that part, not being good for the troops...
I think we should show them some more "shock and awe"... by that I mean show the just how fast we can be gone if asked to leave... "pack it up boys, we're going home in 48 hours!" Leave so fast it'll make their heads spin!

8. It's a perfect way out for the Bush Regime.
The Iraqis are standing up and asking the US to leave. The Bush Regime can end the Occupation and leave a few thousand troops to gaurd the Busholini Palace. Maybe that's why Busholini took his recent trip there. To iron out the details of the oil and other Corp. interests in Iraq.
